    Take a good pair of hiking shoes with you which fit to all sorts of terrain.

    there´s no Malaria but some cases of Dengue have been recognized.

    Camping is rare but you have very good, so called gites d`etap in the mountains where you also get delicious meals.

    For you English only speakers some sort of phrasebook will be incredibly useful since French dominates almost everything on this island and you will be lost without a few basic words.

    large duffle bag to hold everything for travel
    backpack, rucksack or knapsack with 35 - 40 liters, more is too much to carry all day long, and you should start to consider leaving some stuff at home
    hiking boots with thick sturdy soles
    at least a one liter water flask
    an assortment of t-shirts & shirts, preferably some with a mix of nylon and polyester, as cotton takes too long to dry when it gets wet
    zipper trekking trousers and/or hiking shorts with large cargo pockets
    thick blended polyester, nylon, wool hiking socks
    pullover, sweat shirt, fleece and/or fleece vest
    rain jacket or goretex windbreaker
    ball cap and/or sun hat
    polarized sun glasses
    sun cream and sun block from factor 8 up to factor 30, use it early not after you get burnt
    flashlight and/or head lamp
    knife, fork and spoon
    personal medicines & tablets
    insect repellent
    towel & wash cloth
    soap & shampoo in the extra small sizes and only what you really need

    telescopic hiking poles
    camera and film with extra batteries
    Swiss army knife
    muessli bars and/or candies for extra sugar
    toilet paper and or kleenex tissues
    extra underwear & socks
    washing powder to rinse items out at night
    a mesh bag for drying wet items underway
    notebook and pencil (this could save your life someday, if for some reason you cannot speak or no one can understand you)
    some first aid & emergency supplies which can be divided between the group

    extra money and a credit card
    plastic baggies to keep personal items dry
    a water proof watch
    a whistle
    compeeds or other specialised bandages for bllisters
    white cloth or surgical tape
    some extra cord and/or extra shoe laces or
    if you can, 10-20 meters of 4.5-5.0mm nylon rope
    a hankerchief which has many uses from covering your head, sweatband, bandage, cold compress, to isolate an injured eye, etc.

    sleeping bag liner for sleeping in the hut
    sleeping bag if you will be in a tent
    bivy bag if there is a chance you will get wet or have rain
    isothermic pad for sleeping or to sit on when its wet
