There are so many things that I could put here. A trip around the busy market is a must where you can buy everything from Green Bananas to bits of material etc. But the most beautiful place to be has to be Gisenyi or Kibuye on the shore of Lake Kivu. Stunning ! The best thing I have done in Rwanda is to go to Lake Muhazi and skinny dip ! Very nice, although a little bit cold. I was camping right opposite where the President keeps his cows !!
Go to the Parc National de Vulcans.It was here that we hiked through the mountainous jungle to see the gorillas. It was exhausting but exillerating. After bush bashing for so long you suddenly enter a clearing and see a few gorillas. As your eyes adjust to the dark under the canopy you realise there are 6 in front of you..and 6 more behind you. They just eat there way past you. The young ones come very close to look at you which is great, you just hope mum realizes we mean no harm. We then saw the silverback, who ripped out a small tree, broke it in half and threw the 2 pieces at us. He was trying to show who was boss....he was successful! Hitchiking in Rwanda was easy. I travelled on the back of trucks, up front on a truck (luxury)and I just stopped and ate with the locals. You do get a little sick of goat, but the sugar cane was a real treat.
