The Bikini Tam Tam Beach Club is the best beach bar on Lake Kivu. It is actually more beach than bar, but that is what makes it so good. Essentially it is a beach area with gardens overlooking Lake Kivu. The ‘restaurant’ part of Bikini Tam Tam is mostly plastic tables and chairs stuck in the sand. Don’t worry, they do have covers they put up if it really starts raining. In addition to food and music on the beach, they also have a (safe) boating and swimming area. You can enjoy a massive (720ml) cold Primus on the beach. In fact you are less than 1 km from where Primus Beer is brewed!

Tam-Tam's are musical gongs from Southeast Asia and no one is quite sure how the bar received its interesting name. This is a great place to unwind and see in beautiful sunsets over the lake.

To add to the excitement you can see the nearby active Nyiragongo Volcano and you are right on the beach of one of only 3 Exploding Lakes in the world. And Nyiragongo destroyed 20% of the twin town of Goma in 2002. You need more than 1 beer!

Weekends are packed, but you can always sit on the steps of the kitchen building or on the sand. They have shower facilities, but bring your own towel.

The restaurant menu is mostly beef burgers and chip (thick French fries, but you can get some steak and seafood dishes. The atmosphere is the real charm here. It’s fun and lively.

They also offer camping in their beautiful gardens underneath the dense trees.

Dress Code:
Anything goes. Bring some swimwear and a towel!

cadillac: Disco

Cadillac is the biggest nightclub in Kigali and has improved over the 8 years that i have been here. The music is good and the beer reasonably priced for a nightclub. The only drawback are the amount of prostitutes there who,if you are a single male of any age, are a real pain in the neck. be careful too as the legal age of consent is 21 in Rwanda and all girls will tell you that they are 21 even if they are only 18.
Planet at KBC is also a good club which has a lounge area as well as a dance floor and bar. the trouble is that the music in the relaxation lounge is just as loud if not louder than the disco area! beer cheap again at 1000 francs a bottlefor Amstel ( normal price in a local bar is 600 francs).

Night hits the city very early at 6 pm the whole year round, so I have noted some locations for you to go:
Mango Club is behind Hotel des Milles Colines in Kigali centre on the main street between the first and the second roundabout just opposite of the small Okapi Minibus station. Live music of african style tunes and covers of the latest radio hits, regggae classics. Popular with both locals and foreigners, beer is cheap, nice ambiance.

The bigger hotels have bars where you can have a sit-down and relax. I specially suggest the bar of Hotel Milles colines where you can delight yourself in the evening with a good-night-drink.
Cadillac is a rather undistinguished dark disco with a young crowd.
Planet is a Bar at the Kigali Business Centre Building (abrev KBC).

Kigali is pretty quiet at night. Well there is a 10pm curfew to contend with. We would wander home (the hostel) after a few drinks and chat with the soldiers in the street. They're teenagers with machine guns andarmoured cars. They were all really happy to talk to us, partly because we had 2 blonde girls with us, and we could stay out later if we were with them.

Here is where you find the Rwandans who love to dance! They play a lot of Ugandan music especially on Tuesday nights. There's some sort of karaoke...quite interesting!
