Use your canvas carry-on, not necessarily a bag with wheels. You'll find yourself carrying your bag up stairs. Bring long skirts and long pants, walking sandals and hiking boots, short and long sleeve blouses. You can have your clothes laundered and pressed for a few dollars at nice, local hotels. Bring a product like "Sting-Eaze" for nettle scratches, mosquito repellent, and handiwipes to use as wash-cloths. On the gorilla trail, I wished I'd suffered the extra weight of a better camera lens. If you have nice camera equipment, this is the time to bring it along. For hiking, Tencel pants worked great; they dont pick up briars and nettles as jeans do. And, when they got wet, they dried quickly. Good hiking boots are a must. Otherwise, you will slip and slide. Bring two or three bottles of water for a gorilla hike; you'll be happy to have it.
Bring your favourite food, the stuff you really can not do without, whether it is Marmite, Pesto or Coco Pops. Basic foods are available and cheap and many imported foods are available but very expensive often the quality is unavailable. Most things are available at a price.
