Backpack is the best, absolutely.If you move by car(which is a best way), you have to buy a map, because there are no road signs. You can get the map from the main post office(avenida 12 de julho). Inside the office there is a little gift-shop, that is the only place to get a decent map. Map is a blueproof print and hand coloured! The pic is seen in the intro page. Good pair of walking shoes, because the roads and streets are in very bad condition. Malaria medication is recommended(and painkillers), and your own needles, if you hurt yourself and need stitches. There are no public toilets, so keep always some paper with you. Electricity is often off, so load your batteries always when it is possible.Bring your own films(expensive there and hard to find). There are no camping places, but on the northcoast is possible to rent a hut(made of palm leafs) on the beach for a few dollars. It...
