breakfasttime by sachara It was a big surprise to discover the campement in Gouloumbou after a long travelday, coming from the Gambia. In the dark we saw its gate and then lights behind the parking lot. These were the lights of a nice restaurant with view at a beautiful garden and a swimmingpool. It was like paradise, because we didn't expect to find a place like this in the middle of nowhere. Some of us couldn't resist the water and jumped into the pool. I ordered a coconut drink and gazelle beer at the same time and just sat down to relax. Allthough we came late and unexpected with 7 persons, they could make dinner for us. Within no time we had delicious beef with pommes frites. The next morning we had also a delicious breakfast, the best of our whole trip. Restaurant of Hotel de Simenti by sachara When we arrived at the Simenti Hotel in the Niokolo Koba Park, we had first a cool drink in the restaurant before we started our late afternoon gamedrive. At the same time we ordered our dinner for the evening. The restaurant will be refurnished within a short time. The furniture and curtains were allready ordered by the new manager. The opinions about these changes are varied. Some said it's a pity, they fear the ambiance will become too fancy. Others say the complex was too neglected, so it would be nice.
We had a three course dinner. I can't remember exactly what we have eaten, but I know I enjoyed it. view from the Simenti restaurant by sachara Not the restaurant itself of the Simenti Hotel in the Niokolo Koba Park, but its terrace is the highlight of the restaurant. From this terrace you have great views at the Gambia River. It's also a nice place to have a drink in the shades of the trees, while looking at the river. You will see a lot of birds and if you are lucky also some animals, coming to the river to drink. At the right hand side you see also a look-out point, which you can reach easily from the terrace. In 2005 the new Britain management starts to renovate the Simenti Hotel complex including the restaurant.. senegal saint louis by johnsakura As we arrived in St. Louis and rented a house on the beach (which was very cheap by the way), we used the kitchen to cook our own food. We went out to the market to buy all the ingredients on te busy market streets of Saint Louis and came back home with a lot of good and tasty things. St. Louis is the perfect place to buy vegetables and fruits.
Our super dinner consisted in: home made potato chips mixed vegetables salad spaguetti home made tomato sauce Leave a Comment Theme: Eclectic/InternationalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensive

dakar senegal by johnsakura You can eat on these street tables near the Medina district. This is located after the Avenue Faidherbe. At lunch time this seems to be full of people as it should be a fast and cheap way of eating almost home made food.

Medina street restaurants-Dakar by johnsakura You can eat on these street tables near the Medina district. This is located after the Avenue Faidherbe. This is like mcdonalds for local people in Dakar.
On the pciture you see almost all ingredients you can actually eat on those street vendors. You can have bread with rice, this strange onion sauce, chips, salad and if you eat meat, you have fresh made on spot grilled meat. Leave a Comment

senegal dakar by johnsakura In dakar you have lots of opportunity to eat during the day and at night. You should take in consideration that restaurants close before 11:30pm, so after this will be a bit sifficult to dine out.
We ate rice, salad and yogurt, others ate some meat speciality from senegal with green pees, also some shrimps. Leave a Comment

senegal by johnsakura If you are traveling in Africa on your own wheels, prepare yourself to eat food from the day before. As we cooked usually dinner in a bigger quantity we always had breakfast or lunch the following day.
This special day of the picture I remembered to be very hard on our stomaches. As we got out of Tambacounda in the morning direction Park Niokolo Koba we had no food prepared, so we tried to eat the leftover from the day before. I think a few part of the food was already a bit of date, but, hunger makes incredible things to your flavour glandules. Leave a Comment Theme: Eclectic/InternationalComparison: least expensive

Mangroves, oyster habitat by Saagar When in the Sine-Saloum delta area, make sure that you get to taste barbecued mangrove oysters. Thy are picked off the mangrove roots, stems and stumps at low tide, and basically thrown into the fire. When ready, bend them open and eat as is. The locals will do this, and probably hotels, too. Just make sure the harvest is not done by cutting the mangrove bushes (illegal) instead picking the oysters off the live roots. by Wiley_Coyote Some of the most amazing food I have had in Dakar was at this place. Though, the food is more from Cape Verde than Senegal, it's still absolutely delicious....and the portions are insanely huge! Leave a Comment
