View from the St. Servatius bridge accross the Senegal river. It was built in 1856 and connects the "Langue de Barbarie" (on the left), where are located most of the hotels, and the village of Guet N'dar with the town Centre of St. Louis (on the right side).

by Saagar

This national park covers the most important areas of the Sina and Saloum rivers draining central Senegal. The delta and tidal areas constitute the largest remaining mangrove area in Africa. Its UNESCO Man and Biosphere-program World Heritage protected area - the biosphere reserve - covers 330.000 ha of estuary and delta lands, shallow rivers, sand banks, mangrove swamps and some continental areas. Established in 1976, it was substantially increased in 1981.The national park named "Delta du Saloum" in the soutwestern part is classified as a Ramsar site, a major bird area. Many European bird species are wintering here.

Harbour beach, Ile Goree

by Saagar

While most beaches near Dakar are rather full of plastic and other trash, and some have quite polluted water as well, the little beach near the pier of Ile Goree is good in all respects. There can be seasonal cold water, but generally it should be ok. Enjoy!

Colonial architecture

by Saagar

Senegal, or parts of her, have been on shifting foreign hands through the centuries, and this is refelcted in a very interesting architecture. In the blend of British, Dutch, Portugese and French influences you will notice an African strain. The result is pleasing to the eye, despite the sometimes sinister usage of the colonial building. While the smaller cities have less in terms of imposing or historical architecture, the bigger coastal settlements are worth visiting for this reason alone.

Baobab forest

by Saagar

Mid-way on the road between Dakar and Kaolack is the world's largest baobab tree forest. It is a fantastic place, and if you haven't seen baobabs before, you are in for something of an experience. The road goes straight through, and you can stop along the highway to have a look.Elsewhere in Senegal you can also find enormous baobab trees.
