Jardin du Roi / the King's garden is a farm in the south of the island of Mahé high up in the hills above the village that is called Anse Royal. The view from up there is terrific and you will be able to find tropical fruits, plants and spices there.
This farm was built by Pierre-Louis Poiret, who was said to be the missing son of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, in the 18th century, but he was not really very successful, because he had to find out that many plants would not grow there at all and others would not bring the same rich harvest like in other parts of the world. So the farm was abandoned for some time before someone had the idea to make an openair-museum out of it.
Jardin du Roi is open for visitors :
10.00am - 05.30pm
entrancefee is 5 euros / 10US $
(yes, that is in fact THEIR exchange-rate !)
