Hawksbill turtle

The beaches of Cousin are among the main breeding grounds in the western part of the Indian Ocean for the endangered Hawksbill turtle.
Female hawksbills lay up to six times a season, at fourteen day intervals. Tagged turtles return every two to three years.
No Cousin tagged turtle has ever been recorded as nesting anywhere else.

On our guided tour around the island, I glanced out to the beach just in time to catch the sight of a Hawksbill turtle coming ashore.
