The only normally available option getting to La Digue is via a ferry from Praslin. Which means you will have to take the ferry from Mahe to Praslin. Which means you will have to pay the extremely expensive ferry cost for both, inconveniently priced in Euros. In the end, it is worth the hassle and expense, of course, and thankfully, the ships are top-notch vessels, flush with TV's and DVD players.

The companies responsible for the ferries are: Inter-Island Ferry Service and Cat Cocos and I paid 36 Euro from Praslin to La Digue.

Whats that smell?

There are taxis on the island, available to whip you off to your chosen accommodation. However, there is a more traditional option at your disposal, which I highly encourage: ox cart. It costs the same, but takes 3 times as long, which is a perfect way to transition yourself to the tempo of the island. For things will slow down here, no doubt. Yet, no matter how slow things go, your time to depart will always arrive to quickly.

La Digue is very small. You can leisurely pedal your way around the circumference of the island in about 45 minutes. Every guesthouse and hotel offer bike rentals, and you should certainly take them up on the offer, as it is a wonderful way to experience all the island has to offer. The interior of the island does have a few hills, but nothing too difficult.
