One of the most convenient ways to reach La Digue is by ferry. Two ferry services are on offer a fast ferry taking about 15 minutes from Praslin or a slower service that takes around 30 minutes.
The ferrys are modern and comfortable and allow splendid views of the island group. Tickets can be purchased via your ground operator or in the port.

For those who do not wish to explore the island on foot or bicycle the traditional way of transport is available - ox carts. Those travel to the main attractions and are also used mainly when tours are offered on the island.

Main street on La Dique

There are no cars on La Dique but a lot to see!! It's easy to rent a bicycle when you arrive by boat and return it to the harbour when you leave. The whole island isn't accessible even with a bike, but that's the fastest way to see everything! On the other side of the island, there are very beautiful beaches, but they are difficult to reach.

Bikes

There are very few cars and trucks on La Digue. Most tourists and locals alike, ride their bikes everywhere.
They have bikes that you can rent near the dock where you arrive.
You can also take an ox-cart ride to your hotel
if you have a lot of luggage.

The island is pretty small, there are some 3/4 std taxis and the rest are taxis driven on foot by men using oxes...maybe slow, but so nice ! To go around don't miss to rent a mountain bike...useful and nice !

Bicycle Hire

The island almost has no cars. To explore the island on your own the best way is to hire a bicycle. Hire companies are avaible right at the exit of the harbour.

Ready to carry the load

When you arrive or leave the island you can get a ride on an ox cart to carry your luggage.
It is very slow and bumpy but sometimes beats walking.
