    Sunset-facing beaches: Beach romance

by Saagar Updated May 21, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

When the sun sets bring towels, beach gear, picnic bag and a lamp. Your airport dutyfree chablis or perhaps chardonnay comes in handy now. Cooled from your hotel's minibar.
Watch the sun go under from the beach with the smells and rustling of the Takamaka trees behind you.
Go into the water with the sun and wash the daylight away...

The more civilised version of this is La Mare restaurant on Beau Vallon (see my restaurant tip).

Dress Code: Fairly optional, depending on the company and situation and popularity of the chosen beach...

  • Lovenut, Katiolo, Barrel: Nightlife in Seychelles

by MikeJohnNelson Updated Oct 5, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We been to Seychelles last week and i can say we visited all nightclubs on Mahe island.
What can i say... First was Barrel , we spent 5 min there and run out: smoke all around, some guys immediately start to offer us drugs, meny people so drunk or under drugs so they can hardly stay on the floor. So if you looking for trouble - this is the place but if you going out with girlfriend - Never.

Next was Lovenut Night club, wow after Barrel we felt like in paradise. Great lights, clean, and what you notice first - different people, smart casual dress, and lot of tourists. Musiñ was great and we patry till morning. So its place to visit for sure.

Another day we went to Katiolo. Mmmm it was empty, i think it was friday, i been told by sleepy bartender that another days they have people... may be. I guess its becouse its hard to find and more hard to get out - no taxi, no bus... And inside its not impressive.

We tried also PePe disco but it was close...

Dress Code: Every place have "no shorts" policy for men, so casual with trouses for men and women as they like.

Really Best place to party in Seychelles,We find it in the center of Victoria, called Lovenut club. Mixed crowd with locals and turists, after cheking others night spots we spent rest of our holidays there. Lights and music on european level. Try there local dark rum, really nice!

Dress Code: They dont let in men in shorts, so you will need your throuses.

  • Katiolo Nightclub: The Best Nightclub, Seychelles

by SusanneMeiers Updated Oct 28, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Seychelles is Paradise and the place to be to get away, relax and enjoy the nature....but for the younger generation like ourselves, we started to get a little bored at night....We asked the hotel management and the locals about the night life, and everyone recommended Katiolo Nightclub. It was worth it. Located in the main tourist area in the north. Open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays ( we went to all three nights that week) this club with open air tropical decor, while very small compared to international standard, was perfect for Seychelles.
The music was excellent, a mixture of international current top hits and local music. If you want to have a good time, this is the place to be. It can get quite full especially on Wednesdays, as it is popular to both locals and tourists alike. Entrance is only SR 100 ( approx USD 10) . Ladies Free on Wednesdays and Saturdays. One of the best nights out since we've been on holiday.

If you want a good night out, this is the place to go.

Overall, a very good holiday....and a very good time....while Seychelles is not Ibiza or Majorca....there is still something for those who want to have a good time.

Dress Code: No Shorts or Sneakers. Smart dress.

  • Katiolo and Tequila Boom: Night life in seychelles

by johnndoe Written Jun 7, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

To clarify on some opinions expresses in this debate.

Alex_ first, katiolo is not Chez Baptista or Tarosa on La Digue. Katio is provided with a nice step down timber floor board to dance on. Actually one of the best platform altho could be larger. The MEN can walk around the dancin floor and check the beautiful girls dancing in 360 deg view.
Fresh breeze from the sea also provides better drinking apetite.

After a night at lovenut my boxer short smells of cigarette tho im a non smoker. I wonder where one will run if a fight hapens in lovenut. Entrance is also exit...
To me Lovenut is a suicide box.

Tequila Boom on the other hand altho airconditioned is a nice place to spend the night.
it is so spacious inside that one dont smell the smoke and the fart of other people like lovenut.
security service is also well provided so rest assured ure secure.

The only catch with Tequila is the price for drinks which is out of most peoples league. so better bring along 1500 rups (us$ 188)to get tipsy if ure a heavy drinker. yes tipsy.

To conclude i would strongly recomend tequila and Katiolo as the night life spot.
But please do not go katiolo on fridays cos u will be dissapointed. somehow most of the entertainment is in town with the street racing and every body goes to lovenut then.

Barrel Bar: Crowded Dungeon in Victoria!

by cricketdog Written Apr 22, 2007

I didn't care for this place near as much as Katiolo. It's very crowded in the downstairs portion of the bar (where everyone hangs out) and a lot of people were smoking.

The Barrel Bar is certainly interesting and I'm glad we got to see it but for a more exciting and upscale crowd, I'd definitely recommend Katiolo!

However, if you tend to get hungry when you drink, you can merely walk across the street and order some fried chicken from the shop across the street. Locals are lined up outside at all hours!

  • katiolo nightclub: nightlife in seychelles

by karenpool Updated Apr 22, 2008

Our visit to the Seychelles island was very relaxing but at the same time fun. Just when we had thought the island did not have much of a night life, the locals as well as the managers at the hotel told us of this nightclub called katiolo at anse-aux-pins. Located more or less away from the town but within close proximity of both the north and south allowing for easy access to a wider range of the population. It is the one and only open air nightclub in Seychelles where tourists can take a breather rather than the closed compact air conditioned nightclubs in the country. This nightclubs success we were told is illustrated in the fact that it has been around for thirty years and take a look at a map of seychelles, you will most probably see the name katiolo, the only night club on the map. People from every corner of the island crowd into this spacious nightclub bursting with life on the significantly large dancefloor for a small island like seychelles. Just picture a traditional nightclub, cool breeze blowing in from the sea right in front, but at the same time the music is modern and captivating, it was exactly what we were looking for! You wont want to leave and thats the honest truth, I know I didn’t. We also visited the lovenut nightclub, we went on all three nights, however we were disappointed when it came to Wednesday as it closed early since they appeared to not have much clients, even Saturday was a disappointment. However Friday was ok but I recommend for a more upscale crowd to go to katiolo. We went to tekila boom also and that was a bigger disappointment as it was practical empty and no fun at all.You cannot miss the Katiolo Nightclub as it is next to the sea side and has a large enough parking. If you are a tourist like myself then you would want something different to the usual European nightclubs we are accustomed to and katiolo has attained this objective. It’s something different, a nightclub playing modern music yet at the same time keeping the essence of the Seychellois tradition with its wooden interior, definetly a must see!

    Club Lovenut: Seychelles night out

    Lovenut Nightclub and cafe

Situated in the center of Victoria, just few steps from Taxi station you can find most modern and popular nightlife spot of Mahe - Lovenut nightclub. It is the only 2 levels nightclub in the country. Well known for its "crazy nights", live shows on weekends, best light and sound. There are fresh air hall and cafe, fully air-conditioned inside and amazing second floor as posh VIP area. We have been really impressed by this club especially if you compare it to other disco in the country. We met Miss Italy, Miss Germany and other celebrities in the club. Often you can see international DJ’s and singers. It’s very secure and easy to reach. It has it all there: upper level international crowd, reasonable bar prices and great music, what else you need for a great night out?

  • Katiolo Nightclub: Seychelles Nightclub - The Best

    by Mary007 Updated Oct 28, 2008

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

When in Seychelles there is only one place to go for a good time...there is no need to sell itself....it will speak for itself....take time, depending on how long your holiday is, and visit all known clubs on Mahe, you will easily spot which is the best, has more class and will offer you the best music you will need for a good night out. Katiolo is located nearer to the airport, and is ideal night out if you have nothing to do before catching that early morning flight back to Europe.

If you want to have a good time, this is where you should go....the experience will speak for itself...you will enjoy and you will want to go back!

Best nights are on Wedndesdays and Saturdays, ladies night....It was a blast....

When in Seychelles you must at least once experience the nightlife, and this one is defenitely it.

    Go see for yourself.

Thank you Mary007 for your Nightlife tip. Katiolo was the best. For guys like us it is the best place to meet with some of the local girls. Music was great and not over-crowed. Highly recommend this one to anyone in the mood to go out and enjoy yourself when on holiday in Seychelles. Wednesday nights are the best.

  • Katiolo Nightclub: Seychelles Nightlife

by DebbieBarn Updated Oct 28, 2008

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We just came back from holiday in Seychelles, and we miss it. It was a beautiful island, relaxing and although a little bit expensive, it was a well deserved break.

For those who say dont go for the nightlife....there is...thankfully a great nightlife in Seychelles, including bars, casinos, restaurnants and pubs.
Best Bar on Mahe - Level 3
Best Casino - The one over the Pirates Arms in town
Best Nightclub - Katiolo Nightclub in the South. An absolute fantastic time...thank you!
Best Hotel - Difficult to say...but the one we stayed in was quite nice ....Fishermans Cove
Best Beach - Beau Vallon Beau in the north or in the South Anse Takamaka
Best Excursion - Catalina Reef Safari which can be booked with Masons Travel locally.

Seychelles is worth every penny , but dont change much of your currency into the local ruppee as all hotels / restaurants etc take only foreign currency from tourists.

Just to clear up a few misconceptions about the nightlife.. katiolo does not have sand inside so therefore the ladies donot have to worry about their heels getting spoilt, its wooden! I am foreighner in the seychelles and im starting to work here now therefore I also know what is what. My favourite nightclub that i have been too out of tekila boom, love nut and katiolo is definetly katiolo. Its something really different to the european nightclubs I was previously accustomed too, I came here to look for diversity and katiolo has clearly attained this objective. It’s something different, a nightclub playing modern music yet at the same time keeping the essence of the Seychellois tradition with its wooden interior. The crowd is up class and the atmosphere is friendly and fun. On wednesdays ad saturdays you have to come early as it gets full early.

Beau Vallon Beach: Sundowner on Beau Vallon Beach

by dickiebird Updated Dec 12, 2006

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There is something special about sitting on the beach (not at a hotel) and watching the sun set.

Do yourself a favour and have sundowners on Beau Vallon Beach. The sun sets each day at 6:13pm. Get yourself a quiet spot on the beach, wander over to Mike's shop or the Beachview shop (next to video shop on the North side of Beau Vallon), buy a bottle of your favourite wine, and enjoy the view.

You will have to bring your own corkscrew and a couple of wine glasses, but it is well worth it.

PS: I purchased a couple of coconut husk wine goblets from the flea market vendors in Beau Vallon.

There really wasnt any nightlife when we were there, after your evening meal you were treated to some local dances and singers in a canoe (The Anse Lazio Band).
The beach after which they took their name was fantastic, sadly the band wernt.
