Sauzier waterfall

by marcic

Back in 1998 with a local guy we used to wander around showed us many places many places no tourists would go to. Even nowadays the first thing that comes to mind about Seychelles is the waterfall. You cannot lose such memories ever. Moonlight... Sounds from the water falling... Love...Now in 2003 - five years later - people have found this place and a local guy has made a small business of it. You have to pass his farm with turtles, goats, bats, doves and support his family with entrance fee of 25 rupees I guess. The signs with the meaning "So, another tourist!" starting off the main road made us laugh all the way to the waterfall. Anyway a nice place to go to.

Go and find your personal "Off the beaten Path"

by Sunchild

If you explore the islands - either by bus, walking, driving a car or with a bike - you'll find places where you get the impression, you are the only one on this island. Especially on Mahe we found so many nice beaches which "belonged" totally to us! Great! And the nature of Seychelles is indiscibable anyway! Go and breathe it into your body and try to keep it within your heart!

Nature lovers Island

by kyoub

Silhouette Island is the third largest granitic island of the Seychelles, situated 19 miles North West of Mahe(15 mn by helicopter). Silhouette's forest remains one of the least interfered with natural habitats in the region, and provides an ideal escape for nature lovers. The pictures shows the island in the background from mahe.

Smell the spices

by kyoub

Located in the hills of Anne Royale, Mahe is Le Jardin du Roi. it is a sprawling garden with a lot of spice plants such as cardamon, cloves, nutmeg, vanilla, and cinnamon. There is also a small museum and a few birds. This pair of flying foxes is also taking a nap here.A small creperie serves sweet and savory crepes with homemade ice cream. YUM

Off the coast of Praslin about 2km is Cousin Island. It has been purchased by the Bird Life International, for bird preservation. It is a must see when you are in the Seychelles. It is amazing to see the birds nesting on the graound and on every branch. We saw many white-tailed tropic birds in all stages of life. The island is also home to two of the oldest giant tortoise. After the 1 1/2 hour tour of the island you will have a nice BBQ with freshly caught fish.

Snorkel

by kyoub

Snorkeling trips can be arrange on Praslin, which will take you out to the islet of St Pierre. This is in the Curieus National Marine Park.We stopped here on our way out to CurieusIsland. We snorkeled and fed the fish. The water was clear and there were a lot of pretty fish. The coral wasn't in great shape though.

LaDigue Island

The only way to get her is by boat.It is a laid back place with friendly people and beautiful beaches.Take your time looking around the Veuve Nature Reserve and see if you can find the Seychelles Black Paradise Flycatcher.

Sauzier Waterfalls, located on...

by wadekorzan

Sauzier Waterfalls, located on the western side of Mahe Island near Port Glaud..not too many visitors know about it and it is a beautiful walk...you have to walk into the 'jungle' past a bunch of Creole homes which is very interesting to see. When you get to the last home, there is a little animal farm which is neat and there are 2 very cute little bats hanging upside down....people do eat bat in the Seychelles, and we tried it, but I tried to politely put my one mouthful of it into my napkin without anyone noticing, and I wouldn't try it again especially after seeing these cute bats..but anyway..at this house where you have the small animal farm, you have to sign your name in a book and pay about $2 or so...definitely worth it. When you get to the falls, it is simply lush and beautiful. If you go there, look for the pair of sunglasses that I lost while jumping from one rock to...

Trekking the Seychelles

by Saagar

There are plenty of trails on the Seychelles islands, but to find them is a challenge. The hand-out tourist maps are inaccurate when it comes to trails and foot paths. Better get the topo maps of the Geographical Survey (see my shopping tip on this), they have accurate maps that show fairly well the trails, too. Normally the trails go to some view point or traverses a ridge or end up at some nature phenomenon, water fall, shrine or plantation. The walks are hot, so bring water. A delightful way of spending a day out as an alternative to the beach.

The top of La Digue

by Saagar

To get to the top of La Digue, "Eagle's Nest" and the "Pavillion" at 333 meters above the sea level, is a breeze, albeit a sweaty one. However, neither the tourist office nor guidebooks are good at explaining the route. From the populated western side of La Digue, near the top end of the bird preserve (road goes up slightly north of there) you proceed up the hillside called Belle Vue dotted with family houses along the paved road. The road curves to the left in its upper part, and comes to a shrine. Here the road splits and you can choose either, as the roads, soon becoming trails meet higher up, but say, take the paved road right. At the end of the road is a family house. Continue straight up past a shed and you will see the trail commencing, curving left, and then shortly to the right and up. Continue along this trail (it doesn't branch) for about 15-20 minutes uphill, and you should...
