all sports advice

by skippinrocks

Unless you are snorkelling, you will have a hard time finding what you are looking for. Beau Vallon beach seems to be the center of activity for fun. It is a huge, beautiful beach. Some of the activities they have there are snorkeling, parasailing, and kayaking. There are also some guys walking up and down the beach asking you if you want to go fishing. Boats for fishing and diving come right up to the beach and pick you up from your hotel. Fishing for 4 people will run around 1000 rupees per person for half a day and 1500 rupees for a whole day or more. You can troll for Dorado or sailfish or bottom fish for snapper and grouper. If you are going to try and fish from shore, bring your own equipment. It is incredibly difficult to find any sporting goods whatsoever. There is one small place I found, which is on Beau Vallon Beach, next to the Boathouse called “Striker”, which has enough...

Snorkeling

by iammon

There are a lot of good snorkeling spots that are reachable from the beaches. For example Anse Laslo on Praslin (check for tide times) You will have to bring your own gear if you do not book a day trip with a boat as we have not seen rental places and there are no shops where you can buy the gear either.

Amazing offshore fishing

by cricketdog

My husband brought his fishing pole and some tackle with him to test out the fishing in the Seychelles. He certainly wasn't disappointed!! The fishing was a blast for him and it's quite easy to catch fish.Offshore, he caught quite a few bonito. Closer to land, he caught grouper and some local Seychelles fish. On several occasions, he was able to catch enough fish to feed everyone on the boat for at least one meal -- 17 of us!!! Be sure to bring some heavy test line. His 20 lb. test didn't hold most fish offshore. The best fishing was en route from Silohouette to Bird Island.

Snorkelling

The sports centre next door to the hotel will do free hire of snorkelling equipment, but the reef just outside the hotel isn't great, at least not within easy swimming distance. If you are serious about snorkelling, it is probably better to join a boat excursion where they will take you to the best reefs.

Scuba Diving

by grets

Scuba diving is available from the water sports centre next to the hotel, for beginners and expecienced alike. The reef around the Seychelles is pretty good and offers some fine diving opportunitites. All the equipment is provided by the sports centre.

Snorkelling

by Saagar

For snorkelling you need a good spot (easy on the Seychelles) and good fins, ditto mask and snorkel (not so easy). My advice is that you bring your snorkelling gear with you from home, unless you are only marginally interested in snorkelling, or if you are doing a scuba course or tours with a professional agency. The stuff for rent or sales in the Seychelles weren't that good - cheapies.

Bikes aplenty, but....

by Saagar

On the Seychelles there are plenty of bicycle rentals. Not so much on Mahe, with all the car traffic there and narrow, steep and winding roads, but certainly on Praslin and La Digue. On La Digue it is the main transportation mode for locals as well as tourists. An excellent idea, of course, until you set off and find out that the bike barely works. The 21 gears are reduced to 3 etc. If you are renting a bike, check the bike thoroughly first, most of them are in shambles, and it's hard to find one where all functions are intact and the seat is good.If you are lucky and find one that suits you, ensure you can rent it for the duration of your stay. If you don't bring it to your hotel/guest house porch and lock it, it will immediately be re-rented without a second thought by the rental guys.

Diving is said to be great!

by Sunchild

Well, we aren't divers - but we met "thousands" of them and they seemed to be through to bits. Again - very expensive, we were told! Snorkeling is a lovely experience, too! Sorry - don't know about that! We brought our own snorkeling equipment.

Deep Sea Fishing

by Russ60

This is a must do trip if you have ever fancied catching big game fish.We chartered an Outrigger for three hours in the afternoon, the Skipper took our party about 6 miles out from Beau Vallon Beach. We never had a bite until we were just about to set off back home, I was looking out of the boat when a large fish leapt clean out of the sea and took one of our lures.I would have been dissappointed had we not caught this fish because the trip was very expensive.

The skipper

by Pierangelo

Carlo Pedrini is a pleasant and clever skipper with a big experience. Ask directly to him if you want to do a cruise in Caribean sea or Polynesia. He is an eclectic athlete: practises Triatlon and has a Fitness center in Saronno. Also is a musician and plays battery inside a rock band.
