 | Seychelles Things To Do | Tips 1 - 10 of 141 | | Popular Things To Do | Other Things To Do Tips | All Tips (141) Well, of course Praslin is a wonderful island, too. An absolute MUST: Have a relaxing walk through the " Valle de Mai". That's were the Coco de Mer grows! Transportation: Do it as most of the Praslins people do - take the bus! Well, I must admit, that sometimes it becomes a small adventure to sightsee the island with these "vehicles", as some of the the streets are very steep and you get the impression the bus would not be able "to make" it at some points ;-) !!!! Well, don't get too scared - they'll manage it in the end! :-) Car renting on Praslins is not necessary at all in our opinion. Best beach (anse): Anse Lazio (very beautiful and a small glanze of what you can expect at La Digue) and Anse Volbert. To reach Anse Lazio, take the bus, get off at the 2nd last station (well ask for it - I cannot quite remember anymore!) and then have an approx. 20 Min. walk on a steep small street over a hill. Puuuuh, how sweatening - but really worth it! (If you do decide to hire a car - well, in this case, it would save you this exhausting walk over the hill - but I doubt very much that the high expense is really worth it just for that ;-) ! ) We have been told, that it is possible to walk over the mountain to Anse Lazio (there is a trail) from a point at the north-west. We did not try it out though, for reasons of hot temperature. For me, an excursion like this seemed to get too exhausting, but it's said to be really great! Leave a Comment

The Vallee de Mai is a part of a national park on Praslin island, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site set up to protect the famous Coco de Meer palm. You will find lots of info about this palm and the site on the internet and once you are in the Seychelles. It is a relatively small and narrow valley in central Praslin island, and it's covered in dense jungle; the Coco de Meer and the other 4 endemic palm trees of the Seychelles, The whole place is a bit as out of the Jurassic era, only the dinos are missing. It is not just a boring park with greenery and shadow, it is a wonderful, peaceful walk og good trails in a dense, enchanted jungle, and you can choose to learn as you go, or read up beforehand and snap photos to your heart's delight. Three basic itinerary's are offered in the valley, and the suggested time they are supposed to take seems stupid compared to the kilometres ground covered - until you venture in there. Bring water along with you. The entrance office offers advice, books, and info on bus connections etc. A small shop adjacent serves cold drinks. Leave a Comment Address: Central Praslin islandDirections: From the Pier at St. Anne, it will cost SRS 50 by taxi (5 km), about the double if you come in from the airport in Praslin. Much cheaper scheduled buses stop here as well.Other Contact: Seych. Islands Foundation, Victo

(see t'logue for a lot more pics!) La Digue Island is an absolute MUST. If you have the chance to go there, stay for a couple of days, hire a bicycle and you'll be able to make excursions to all lovely beaches with their rock formations as well to "inside" places and the beautiful landscapes . You'll absolutely adore it! Leave a Comment Address: Nearly any guesthouse/hotel

This little offshore island is home to several endangered species, it is a breeding site for seabirds and turtles. A special reserve for Birdlife Seychelles. We got to meet George, the 150 year old turtle that likes his neck stroked. We were also lucky enough to see a Hawksbill turtle coming ashore to lay her eggs. Don't miss Mahé, please ! The largest island of the Seychelles is home to the capital, Victoria, and really deserves a visit :-) Eight days weren't enough to me to discover everything it has to offer... See my Mahé page for more details ! The picture represents a sculpture of Pierre Poivre, the man who first introduced spices in the Seychelles. Leave a Comment

Yes, Mahé is a quite mountainous island and offers plenty of trekking possibilities ! The Morne Seychellois can be seen from almost everywhere on the island and contrasts so well with the beautiful white colour of the sand of the beaches. This is a picture of the "Three Brothers Mountain" taken in Victoria. Leave a Comment

Anse Soleil is one of the beaches of Mahé that I liked the most. Although I lost my snorkeling shoe there :-) If you click the picture, you'll see that we're not the only ones to love paradisiac beaches... dogs too like to play in the waves when the sand is too hot to stay on :-) Many beaches are great on Mahé, some small, some bigger, with big waves or calm turquoise water... you'll certainly find the one that suits you best :-) Leave a Comment Directions: South-West side of Mahé

I've always loved exotic trees and flowers, and since I was a child, I've always dreamt of going to those places where palm trees grow ;-) Well, in Mahé they are everywhere, I wasn't disappointed ;-) But if you have the opportunity to go to a botanical garden while you are in the Seychelles, do it, it is really worth it ! You'll get explanations on all the trees and tropical plants and flowers that grow there. Very interesting ! Leave a Comment

We all use pepper, nutmegs and other spices... but we never see it growing. I really liked to see the plants and trees bearing those spices or exotic fruits we find in our supermarkets. Mango, corossol, papaya, guava, etc... It's funny to see how they grow "in real" :-) I don't know for Praslin and La Digue, but on Mahé, there is a spice garden called Jardin du Roi, where you can get informations about those exotic fruits and spices. The famous Vallee de Mai on the island of Praslin, is the only place in the world where the giant Coco de Mer grows. This lush, tropical valley is the most important national park in the Seychelles. Early explorers thought that this was the Garden of Eden. You can see a great variety of wildlife here. As well as the Coco de Mer trees and fruits, I saw Latannyen Lat Palms, Horne's and Seychelles Pandanus, Jackfruit, Bronze-eyed and Green Geckoes and Fruit Bats plus several species of birds, including Seychelles Sunbirds.
