Birdwatching.. and not only

by Fabanna

Seychelles is more than the beaches and the sea...actually I think the best activity is birwatching, as there are hundreds and hundreds of species, also very rare, that you can spot really easily. Aside from the thousands of birds, you can enjoy admiring the giant turtles, the gecos and lizards

Day trip to La Digue and Praslin from Mahe

by labaronesa

I did not have time to visit these two islands on my own, I had to use a tour company. My family and I really enjoyed this trip. It is probably true, it would have been alot cheaper to do it on your own but I was running out of time. We took a boat from Victoria to La Digue 1 hour and 45 mins.!!!! what a killer!!!!....If you easily sleep this trip is good for you. Many people in the boat got seasick. I got so sick I did not want to imagine going back to Victoria in the same boat so before I got to La Digue I spoke to the tour leader and he made a phone call to the same tour company in La Digue and they made my reservation. Lucky me there were still empty seats in the airplane. In La Digue we went around in Ox carts they took us to a place where they process coconot oil. After that, we went to a really nice beach and we took the boat again for 15 mins we were in Praslin. In Praslin we ate...

Snorkelling

by mandy66

Snorkelling on Anse Lazio beach in the North of Praslin was the BEST but Anse Soleil beach on Mahe was good too - we saw so many wonderful multi coloured fish, reef sharks, rays, turtles, squid, puffer fish, pipe fish, giant parrot fish (they were amazing to see on a larger reef on Praslin) in fact we were amazed every time we entered the water as we would see a new type of fish every time we went in so buy snorkelling equipment before you go and take it with you to Seychelles.Another tip would be bring disposable under water cameras (we did not and regret it now) and invest in a rash vest (these can be bought on the internet) these rash vests really protect your back from the sun as most have a SPF factor and you forget about the time when you are snorkelling and as a result can get burnt by the sun.

visit La Digue

by mandy66

Viisit la Digue - go to Anse Source D'Argent Beach - lovely for swimming not so great for snorkelling. Take your time and go to Anse Major beach - it'a a bit of a trek on the bike (take a towel to cushion your bum !) but it is worth the slog - beautiful beach although just to look at , dangeruos currents - you can also walk along the coast from there to Petit Anse and Anse Coco which are much the same but even more private.

Le Jardin du Roi (Spice Garden on Mahe)

by mandy66

Don't bother visiting the Botanical Gardens in Victoria visit the Jardin du Roi instead - this is much better by far (if your hire car can make it up the hill that is !!!) the views are fantastic and it's a really lovely walk around the gardens - well worth the time and effort !! (nice cafe too)

Botanical Gardens

by Saraviv

A good place to see the amazing Coco de mer palm trees and other exotic plants introduced and indigenous to the Islands. Many of the plants and trees are not labeled so it might be a good idea to go with a guide. Bring insect repellent!

see the coco de mer at Vallee de Mai

by awladhassan

Vallee de Mai is one of the smallest \world Heritage Sites. It is a quiet secluded vally in the heart of the Praslin National Park, and is home to the coc de mer palm. It is a remnant of the prehistoric forests which existed in Gondwanaland. The fruit of the coco de mer is very large and resembles both male and female reproductive structures on separate palms..There are clear descriptions in several languages on the plant, its fruit and the pests that can attack it.The male palms grow to about 30 m high, female palms to 24m . The female palm produces the largest seed in the world , which can weigh up to 20kg. The seed is in a husk and takes 6-7 years to ripen. The palms live between 200 and 400 years.Open daily from 8.00-17.39Smoking is not allowed. Take only photographs as souvenirs.

Hiking Mahe

by Saraviv

went for a four hour hike in the Morne national park on the mare aux couchons trail. We got lost a few times since the trail wasn't well defined, a guide should be taken if you don't have much hiking experience. We were completely alone surrounded by a forest of cinnamin and all kinds of exotic palm and fruit trees. We ended the trail at a little village where a pack of three aggressively barking dogs scared the daylights out of me. They scattered after throwing a few rocks. There are some huge nonvenomous spiders that sometimes make webs across the trail.

London?

by marcic

Nah. rather Victoria. The capital of Seychelles with clock tower in the centre. I'd rather try to escape it during the day when it's too hot and nothing to breathe. Even such small city has traffic jams and smog. Otherwise worth visiting and watching daily laid-back lifestyle of local people.

L'Union Estate

by marcic

Old plantation now working as open-air museum with old buildings, giant turtles. An easy and laid-back morning/afternoon walk through the plantation leads to Anse Source d'Argent and if you are willing to walk a bit further past you can reach other beaches with not so many tourists.
