 | Seychelles Transportation | Tips 1 - 10 of 66 | | I was very impressed by Air Seychelles. I flew on their new Boeing 737 from Dubai to Mahe and on a 20-seater, De Havilland Otter from Mahe to Praslin. It's quite an achievement for a country with a tiny population to have a top class airline like Air Seychelles. Air Seychelles operates two Boeing 767s and one Boeing 737 on international routes and four De Havilland Otters and an Islander on inter-island flights. The international airport (SEZ) is small, but modern and friendly. It is 10km south of Victoria, on the east coast of Mahe. There is a small duty free shop. From Mahe there are international flights to London, Paris, Rome, Frankfurt, Dubai, Johannesburg, Singapore, Bombay, Male, Mauritius, Reunion and the Comoros. There are also direct Aeroflot flights to Moscow, as well as British Airways, Kenya Airways, Air Austral and Air Mauritius flights . Leave a Comment

The Praslin-La Digue ferry is actually a rather nice schooner. The 6km journey takes about half an hour. When the sea is rough, some passengers are sea sick. Even though the sea was fairly calm, a small boy opposite me was vomitting constantly. If you sit up on deck, be prepared to get a little bit wet, as the waves crash over the bow. If you are interested in birdwatching, take a pair of binoculars, because you will see a lot of seabirds, including flocks of Fairy Terns and Sooty Terns. The ferry sails from the main jetty on Praslin and docks at the jetty at Baie St Anne on La Digue. It sails five times daily and a return ticket costs about US$7. We flew with Air Seychelles from Paris to Mahé. The flight is quite long, +/- 9 hours, but it was ok... I was so excited to go ;-)) Service aboard was perfect. We even go a glass of champaign ;-) See the transportation tips on my Mahé page for more informations. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Mini-mokes and jeeps are available to rent on Praslin and Mahe. Expect to pay a high price for having your own set of wheels though. We rented a jeep for one day and it was $75 ++ That was on Praslin. We rented a car on Mahe and got it at a much better price. It was an older model car but who cares. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Arriving to the Seychelles is easy once you're past the hurdle of paying for the ticket!!!! You will get a visa on arrival (papers to be filled in during the flight, no photos), provided you have a hotel/guest house booking or some other defendable option for staying overnight and the money needed for the days you plan to spend here. Pre-booking and paying from home is therefore making your life much easier when you arrive at the airport here. If you do not have a booking, but have the means to survive, you'll be asked to book at the hotel booking counter right there. You get to stay for as long as you have a booking only, unless on some other fool-proof arrangement. Next counter is optional, but useful, the state bank. I tried to change here but for some reason they refused to change more than 100 USD. But, no problem, there will be chances later to stack up on rupees. Next, unless you are diverted into the duty-free-on-arrival shop, is customs, a trouble spot mainly for locals returning with huge bags of consumer goods. Outside you'll meet the decent world of travel agents perhaps waving a plackard with your name, and taxi drivers looking for customers. Taxi fares are fairly well fixed, and big cheats are rare. Rent a car, the coolest way is a Minimoke (a beach buggy) or else a jeep (more expensive)! The low budget way is the public bus (one way trip costs SR 3,- only) - very good system on Mahé Island, you get to every spot or beach of the island, buses also go to many places on Praslin! La Digue: hire a bike (there are no private cars!!!), take one of the 2 taxis or just walk... the island is very small! Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Between the islands: Mahé and Praslin are linked by airplanes (15') and speed boat (Cat Cocos, 1h), Praslin and La Digue are linked by schooner ferries (30') and there is one daily connection on a schooner ferry (3h, very rough, but the cheapest!) between La Digue and Mahé Islands. The inevitable moment, the departure/deportation from paradise... The airport on Mahe is very orderly and easy. Check-in is a bit on the original side, as it is outside. Passport control and security check aren't good places to break out in a sweat, but after the steaming check-in outside you have no option... Inside, though, there is air condition. Your last postcards can be dropped in the departure hall. Your last purchases can be done in the duty-free shop which has a mix of Seychelles' various crafts plus some of the traditional international brands. You can get some of the Kreolor goods here, too (see shopping tip), and the local perfume. After your last steps on Mahe's soil (well, tarmac...) you can sit back in your seat and ask yourself if your house key for the front door back home is with you? Back to normal worries, already... Taking the public bus is cheaper than hiring a car,but unfortunately I can't tell you more about their public transport system.I just know that bus tickets can be bought from the driver,so make sure you have Rupees with you.You may also ask your resort for a bus timetable,I'm sure they have some. We flew Air Seychelles from Zurich. Ok flight...service was good. Other options include British Airways and Air France. Its easy for us europeans to visit the Seychelles but much harder for americans, which is (don't be upset about this) a big plus as the dollar is currently valuable against the euro and US tourists haven't been able to inflate the prices on Seychelles. Then again Seychelles are, even in the absence of US tourists, clearly one of the world's most expensive tourist destinations...it's worth it though. You can tour Mahe by renting a car. You can use the local busses for visiting Victoria, unless your hotel is in southern Mahe. We flew from Mahe to Praslin. It only takes a few minutes and I was impressed about the professional way, in which this transfer was handled. You can also get to Praslin with a high-speed catamaran. We toured Praslin with bikes...and loved it. The island is very mountainuous and us being finns used to biking and outdoor life...it wasn't a problem for us. You really can appreciate the beauty of Praslin when biking. I wouldn't recommend biking for out-of-shape people or to those not accustomed to biking. You can visit La Digue from Praslin with a ferry...and see whalesharks on the way if you time your visit right (July-August). La Digue can be toured with a bike or even by walking. On Praslin, take a boat trip to nearby Courieuse island (full of wild giant tortoises) and Cousine island (full of rare birds and some giant tortoises). Consider also visiting St. Pierre islet off the eastern coast of Praslin...boats for this purpose can, for example, be rented with crew from Cote DÓr beach. Snorkeling near St. Pierre is like snorkeling in a giant aquarium... Leave a Comment Theme: Other
