CAR and BICYCLE

by mandy66

On Mahe to really see the island properly you do need to hire a car although if money is not an object there are tours of the island you can go on or you can pay a taxi to take you on a tour although you won't have the freedom you have "doing your own thing" - to rent a very small car cost us about 65 Euros per day plus petrol (same price as UK) plus you did have a 1000 Euro excess !!! so drive very carefully and watch out for falling coconuts !!!!The roads on Mahe are narrow and steep in places with many hairpin bends so take your time and watch out for the big busses coming in the opposite direction !!The roads on Mahe are too steep to ride a bike (and too dangerous) so unless you have a deathwish I'd avoid cycling there ! also the busses seem a little shall we say "irregular".Remember that it gets dark about 6.30pm (we always tried to be back at base before dark as the roads were...

Travel from Mahe to La Digue

by Saagar

Travel from Mahe to La Digue:I recommend one night on Mahe before going out to La Digue, and one night on the way back before you fly back home. Just in case. In this way you will manage to organise yourself, buy some local books and other necessities for the La Digue trips sort out luggage and be rested before setting out to la Digue. However, going out to la Digue is definitely possible with a nice morning flight arrival to Mahe, though. A short taxi ride will take you straight to the jetty and ticket office of the catamaran. I guess the catamaran has 4 departures for Praslin every day. Easy to find out once you are there. The only flying option to La Digue is by helicopter. Or you fly to Praslin (15 minutes), taxi ride from the air strip to the Praslin jetty (20 minutes) and then the schooner to La Digue. If you choose to fly, remember you can only take 10 kg of luggage per person, an...

Transit to the Seychelles

by Saagar

Regular flights to the Seychelles take off and arrive at CDG airport terminal 2C in Paris. Flights here are code shares Air Seychelles and Air France, both excellent companies. Our experience, however, is that CDG is an extremely difficult airport for transfers and transit in general. Transfer from one part of the airport to the other, especially from Air France-areas to "others", non-AF-partners, is cumbersome and confusing. Past experience has told me that strikes and other industrial action is quite capable of throwing off flights and schedules and chaos could rule for days at end. This time, our flight to the Seychelles was delayed by 4 hours, so we had about 7 hours' wait. For the last three hours of the wait that particular section of the terminal past check-in and security was closed (shops, bars, services). So there we were, stuck, and without knowing when or if the flight would...

Hire Car

by Phil&Rosie

For travelling around Mahe, make sure to hire a car - you'll need your driving licence, so remember to pack it. Fully comp insurance is normally included in the price - we hired a Suzuki Jimny jeep for about £43 a day. Make sure you get a car with air-con and preferably manual gears for tacking those hills! There are only a handful of petrol stations on the island, so plan your trip carefully too.

La Digue by bicycle

by marcic

You can rent bicycles in many spots on La Digue and it's the most convenient way of transportation on La Digue. Without too much effort you can easily travel around the island in one day or in two days for two routes - the North one ending at Anse Bananas (?) and South East one ending at Grand Anse.

Air Seychelles

by marcic

National airline which was pretty good. Been flying with both British Airways and Air Seychelles to Seychlles and didn't see any difefrences except for tv sets which are more modern on BA.You should visit homepage of Air Seychelles usually they have offers and for price conscious people you can save pretty much this way ;)

Praslin-La Digue Ferry

by iwys

The Praslin-La Digue ferry is actually a rather nice schooner. The 6km journey takes about half an hour. When the sea is rough, some passengers are sea sick. Even though the sea was fairly calm, a small boy opposite me was vomitting constantly. If you sit up on deck, be prepared to get a little bit wet, as the waves crash over the bow.If you are interested in birdwatching, take a pair of binoculars, because you will see a lot of seabirds, including flocks of Fairy Terns and Sooty Terns. The ferry sails from the main jetty on Praslin and docks at the jetty at Baie St Anne on La Digue. It sails five times daily and a return ticket costs about US$7.

Air Seychelles

by iwys

I was very impressed by Air Seychelles. I flew on their new Boeing 737 from Dubai to Mahe and on a 20-seater, De Havilland Otter from Mahe to Praslin. It's quite an achievement for a country with a tiny population to have a top class airline like Air Seychelles.Air Seychelles operates two Boeing 767s and one Boeing 737 on international routes and four De Havilland Otters and an Islander on inter-island flights. The international airport (SEZ) is small, but modern and friendly. It is 10km south of Victoria, on the east coast of Mahe. There is a small duty free shop. From Mahe there are international flights to London, Paris, Rome, Frankfurt, Dubai, Johannesburg, Singapore, Bombay, Male, Mauritius, Reunion and the Comoros. There are also direct Aeroflot flights to Moscow, as well as British Airways, Kenya Airways, Air Austral and Air Mauritius flights .
