Victoria & Albert Wall (Cape Town, South Africa)

by SirRichard

This is one of the few "normal western Malls" I have ever found in Africa. Is not very different from what you can find in any american or european city, but is not what one expects to find in an African country. There are many interesting shops, and wonderful restaurants with nice terraces to have lunch by the sea, looking at the fishes going up and down.

Khan el Khalili Market (Cairo)

by SirRichard

The biggest and most famous market of Cairo was built in 1382. It covers a huge area in the center of the city, where you can find a wide variety of articles, from plastic stuff to embridery, from cafes to mosques.Besides its commercial activity, the market (think of it more as a quarter than as a Mall) has always been a gathering point, a center for the social life in Cairo. Not long ago, you could meet Nobel Prize writer Naguib Mahfouz chatting and enjoying his narguile in the El-Fishawi Cafe, or Cafe of Mirrors. If you wanna take a virtual tour around, go to the Virtual Khan el Khalili page... and don't forget to bargain! :-)For a map, click here.
