There're bar-ish type establishments, but they probably aren't the same as what westerners think of them. So you can get "softs" (pop/soft drink/soda/coke--for all the different names of those types of drink)...and sometimes they're even cold! :-) It's a welcome sight after long, hard days.
Favorite Dish: Well...in Mattru we ate pork, chicken, & fish, & lots of RICE!! as well as many types of fruit, including bananas, plaintain, pineapple (yummy--we bought the pineapples on the way between Freetown and Mattru), papaya, coconut, limes, lemons, onions, oranges, grapefruit , groundnuts (peanuts), hot peppers and other stuff. Casava is very common there, but it's usually mixed in different foods and not eaten by itself. There are some good bread bakers as well!!
For drinks, we filtered our water, made special kool-aid (quite the treat), made fruit juice (fresh lemon/lime juice), drank tea or coffee, etc. No milk to be found!
