  • A good hat - the sun is intense. There is little shade and you are near the Equator.
Sunscreen - same reason. Keep it on you to reapply several times.
Good boots or walking shoes. Lots of loose stones and sand.

Tummy meds. May not be available at the Pharmacies here.

A good cleaning cloth. It does get very dusty.

BYOB. Bring Your Own Booze. You can import a few bottles for personal use. I would suggest Vodka and/or Whiskey. You can buy cold soft drinks and juices here cheap.

You won't need more than 1 suitcase on your trip unless you are a very heavy traveller.

You won't need much clothing due to the fact that the average temperature is about 27 degrees celcius. No winter, No tornados, No hurricans. But there are sand storms now and then, so bring sunglasses.

Definitly bring your own first aid kit. You don't want to have to travels miles just to get a bandaid.

Do not take a very expensive camara on your trip with you. Take a camara which is inexpensve, but reliable.

If your going to Somalia, you must go see the beach. Somalia is home to the longest coastline in Africa. Even if your not much of a swimmer, it'll make for great pictures.

Large Rucksack, something you can put on your back. Also, take something that you can lock up, and a stout cable lock. People are destitute, and you carrying your posessions represent more wealth than they likely will ever see. Plus it's a cutthroat, desperate world there. Some people might kill you for what you've got.

HOT, HOT, HOT....Take lightweight clothing, desert boots, Flak vest, ballistic helmet...

It can rain torrentially, so bring good wet weather gear in the winter (Nov-Jan).

Antibiotics, anti-diarrheal meds, malaria prophylaxis (plasmodium falciparum is there, so try Mefloquine. Watch out for the psycho-dreams, tho.), first aid materials (for possible gunshot wounds), fluid replacement (rehydration salts), water purification pills or filters.

Take an extra battery for your camera if it needs it. And lots of film. No place to buy it if you run out.

Unless you have some reason to go (relief work, combat) I'd just look at this page, and go to Kenya or Ethiopia instead. If you do go, hire some protection...or bring a gun.

  • This should go without saying: large caliber rifle, bulletproof vest, shotgun, pistol, armored helmet, grenades, as much body armour as you can find, as much food as you can carry, cyanide pills in case you are kidnapped, shark repellant, guatemalan insanity peppers.

Wear nothing cause it's frickin hot.

    Bring your best surgeon.

It'll just get stolen and you'll be killed.

    You wont be sleeping.

If you go, let me know. You'll be the craziest muthafuka in the world. I rather goto Afghanistan.

Pack light as most things can be bought here.

Tropical weather so dress casually. Although you shouldn't wear shorts or sleeveless shirts.

Bring your own medical supplies. This includes anti-malarial drugs. Toiletries are readily available.

    Photo equipment is available.
