The restaurant at the Ambassador is probably the best and most expensive in Hargeisa. I invited my friend and guide, Mahamed, to dinner and it cost a total of $11. That includes starters, main course, drinks and desert. Despite the low price, it is the most expensive in town. You get to sit either inside or outside. Sit outside! You are surrounded by the largest garden in the city. The staff are friendly, dressed in tuxedos and they run! I never really saw these guys walk. Service is at the speed of light! All meals start with a free bowl of vegetable soup and bread. Good soup and I don’t even like soup. The menu is huge and everything is available. I tried lasagne, kebabs and steak. All were delicious. Salads are fantastic and fresh. I really enjoyed the Russian Salad. All non-alcoholic drinks are available including milkshakes. You can’t go wrong with whatever you order.

This restaurant was originally established in 1964 Mogadishu but moved to hargeisa in 2001. Serves the only asian food in the city. Also serves: Indian food - Somali food - Western food. Very delicious! Try the Ming Sing Chow mein, with Sweet and Sour Meat Ball, and Somali Style Fish. Mangoes for dessert. Wash it down with Coca Cola or Tea.

Didn't eat in any local restaurants...We weren't allowed to, and in any case, the local flora and fauna probably wouldn't have agreed with our American systems much anyhow. Pic is of a German food drop. A pallet of grain getting dropped out of a C-123. Pretty cool...

There is a restaurant in Hargeisa called 'Medina' and I would have to say I enjoyed it. There are numerous restaurants on every downtown street with great food. Pick any one and you'll enjoy it. If you are ever in a somali restaurant, order Rice with 'suqaar'. Suqaar is red/goat meat cut up and cooked with vegetables and spices. Its amazing!!!!!!
