IN THE MARKETS: WATERMELON

by DAO

Watermelon is sold in every market and is great for keeping your fluid levels up. Do not worry about dust and flies. Just indicate to the seller that you want it sliced. These guys all have razor sharp knives and will cut you a clean piece from the inside. Just 500 Shillings (1 note). Bargain.

In all Markets: SOMETHING FOR THE LADIES !

by DAO

Accoss the markets you will see young ladies carrying trays with perfumes and small plastic containers. Inside the containers are rock like pieces of incense. For LADIES ONLY! These small crystalline chunks are flammable. You need to buy a cheap ceramic holder in the market in which you burn the incense when a lady is bathing. Always a good gift to take home.

any market in somalia: somali wear

by Omar64

It is less a shop than a market. If you go to any market and ask for traditional Somali clothing, you will be greeted with a smile. When in Somalia, you must get the following: A ma'awees, which is our version of the Scottish kilt for the men.(as seen in the pic) They come in fashionable colours and are khafeef(light/thin) for the warm weather. Also, there is the islamic head cap or kufi that the men wear.Last but not least is the scarf. I know when people think about scarfs, they think it is for men. But these are islamic scarfes and also come in fashionable colours. for all of the above, it should total about $15US dollars ......depending on your negotiating skills.

Saadadin: All-In-One Stores

by Adam911

One stop shops where one can buy jams to shoes, Tide soap, cellphones and digicams. New electronics for a fraction of the cost back home. It depends on what you want to buy. But relatively inexpensive.
