Favorite thing: Just one more little fact about Aberdeen.
The last wild quagga (Equus quagga quagga), a sub-species of the Plains Zebra was seen near the town in 1878. It became extinct in the wild shortly afterwards, and the last one died in Amsterdam Zoo in 1883.
There is currently a project in South Africa to genetically reestablish the quagga from the Chapman's sub-species. Meanwhile, the endangered Cape Mountain Zebra can be seen at the Cradock Mountain Zebra National Park and now also, nearer, at the new Camdeboo National Park (formerly one of the Karoo Nature Reserve parks) outside Graaff-Reinet.

Favorite thing: Often seen alongside the road (and do take care not to run over one) are these leopard tortoises.
Very beautiful and VERY grumpy!
