It takes place once a year usually in the middle of May. The Nampo Agricultural Trade Show is the biggest agricultural trade fair in South Africa. Visitors come from various southern african countries near buy. I was fortunate enough to visit this show for the first time in May 2009.

Bothaville buzzed with excitement during this year’s NAMPO Harvest Day held from 12 to 15 May. People came from far to experience tomorrow’s technology firsthand and yet again the exhibitors did not let down.
The 632 exhibitors, seven more than last year, saw to it that visitors to the NAMPO Harvest Day did not leave empty handed or with unanswered questions. The exhibitions were, as always, excellent and of outstanding quality. Feedback from exhibitors shows that a lot of business was done and some say they did better than previous years.
The amount of visitors to this year’s NAMPO Harvest Day was recorded at 60 371, somewhat less than last year. On Wednesday there were fewer visitors than the previous year, but on Tuesday and Friday there were more. A new price strategy was used, where visitors paid more on Wednesday than on other days, to distribute visitors and thus there were a proportionate distribution of visitors over the four days and it can be said that in spite of economic circumstances the NAMPO Harvest Day was still a success.
As in the past some of the country’s leading vehicle manufacturers demonstrated their new bakkies and specialist vehicles, which provided lots of entertainment at the 4x4 obstacle course. Although not all exhibitors took part in demonstrations on the fields, computer technology and electronic exhibitions were used to introduce visitors to tomorrow’s technology.
Outstanding quality applications were at the order of the day at the Farmer’s Patents Competition, which was sponsored for the 21st time by Omnia. The additional divisions made it more interesting and the winners of the various divisions can be seen on Grain SA’s webpage at www.grainsa.co.za.
The ladies programme saw to it that the fairer sex did not feel left out and was attended by many a lady in search of tips on fashion, beauty and style.
The facilities at NAMPO Park, home of the Harvest Day, complied with high standards and although the weather was not perfect we are grateful that the cold stayed away until the weekend.
