Good food, reasonably priced. We had steaks, well cooked, and lemon meringue pie. It was a chilly autumn evening, and there was a welcoming fire in the grate.
Favorite Dish: Rump steak. It was as good as rump steak can be.

We had a light lunch at Artist Cafe. The food was freshly prepared, great tasting and the presentation was also good. Unfortunately they offered rooster koek, which was heated up in the microwave and turned out to be rock hard. But they were good about it and did not charge us for it.
Favorite Dish: Quiche with salad

This is the best place to eat in Clarens. The Highlander is a wonderful little restaurant with amazing views from the balcony and great food and atmosphere. The pizza is delicious. It has a bar area where you can catch the latest sport on a Sunday afternoon and at night it becomes a cosy place to relax and enjoy.
Favorite Dish: The pizza!

The food is excellent and the portion are big. You can see the mountains from the one side and the shops and main street from the other side. Very informal. Pub down stairs. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Favorite Dish: The pancakes and breakfast were outstanding

Address: Right hand side near the Art & Wine Gallery
It is part of a small complex of art and craft shops. The patio of the restaurant links all the shops. While having your wine and starters you can do some shopping. It is not always open for dinners and you have to enquire before the time if it will be open.
You have to sit outside to experience the great atmosphere enhanced by the lanterns on the tables.
Favorite Dish: Everything we had was good and reasonbly priced.

Inside you will find local art on the walls. Creates a nice atmosphere. The verandah outside has a very nice view on the street. In the evening there are coloured lights that add to the atmosphere. Very clean well kept toilets. Pizzas are great and big. Service was always good (have been there quite a few times) but the last time we were there it was a bit slack.
Favorite Dish: A variety of pizzas. Pizzas are big enough for two to share.

We decided on this restaurant because the view from the terrace must be one of the best in Clarens. And the weather was so nice for wintertime nobody wanted to be inside.
Knowing that we had to attend a "braai" later the evening we decided to share the hamburgers. They were so big, the half was as big as a normal burger we are use to.
Favorite Dish: The hamburgers were great and made with real beef patties but what I liked the most was the patato wedges that accompanied the burgers instead of the usual chips (fries).
The burgers were a little bit more expensive than what we normally pay at the steakhouses but when you see the size you can understand why.

This coffee house is part of a very stunning private sandstone house. You can sit inside or on the terrace outside. Stunning view from the terrace. You can choose between filter, cuppucino, espresso, hot chocolate, milshakes etc. We didn't eat but the menu was very inviting and reasonably priced.
The flapjacks looked great. There is a choice between honey and cheese, cherries in syrup and cream and for the kids smarties and ice cream
Favorite Dish: The kids had enormous milkshakes and they loved it. The coffee was good real fresh filter coffee at R7 a cup (big cup). But the best was a refill was only R3. if you love coffee like we do that means 2 cups at R10.
