There are many outdoor activities offered in and around Parys. I previously done some rive rafting here, which was a very enjoyable experience.
There are different tour operators offering a variety of outdoor adventure. You will be able t find details at the Parys Info Office. Other than river rafting, adventures include absailing, rock-climbing, canoeing etc.

If you visit Parys for the first time, this might be the best place to start. This tourist office offers very good info about the town and surroundings. The service is very friendly. You will find enough info on everything from accommodation to daytrips, restaurants etc.
You will find the office on your left hand side, about a kilometre after entering Parys.

As with the antique shops, the quality of works on sale varies from gallery to gallery. Some of these galleries do have artworks by some well known South African artists, and some have works by amateurs.
There are quite a few galleries (mostly on Breë Street) to visit and have a look.

As you drive down the main road (Breë Street), you will see many antique shops. They do vary concerning quality and variety. Some of these shops don’t really sell antiques, but just old stuff which somebody did not want in there home anymore.
It is best to walk around and see for yourself.

We're not fishermen, but if you're gaga about flyfishing, the islands and channels of the Vaal river valley apparently offer ideal conditions, from deep, still pools to fast strong currents, and from shallow riffles to (sometimes) wadeable rapids.
The locals know all the great fishing spots around the islands (often taking a canoe downstream) and we're told that the most likely catches are Vaal-Orange Smallmouth, Vaal-Orange Largemouth, Mudfish, Catfish and the occasional Carp.

There's quite a variety of mountain biking terrain in the Vaal river valley, both in the farmlands to the south of Parys, and along the heights of the Dome Bergland. Some easy, some not so easy!
Whether you're into it for the sport or for archaeological explorations and historical battlefield routes, it's a nice area for taking the path less traveled.

About 2 billion years ago something blew a huge hole in the Earth’s surface near the present-day town of Vredefort in this region. Whether it was caused by an asteroid impact or by a blast from within the Earth's crust is still in question, but it made some great hiking trails!
