Sandton City is probably the largest shopping mall that JHB has to offer. Its everything everybody wants ... The shops that can be found in the mall range from your typical large international franchises (e.g. Body Shop) to smaller more unique stores. Most of the large department stores are represented - TruWorths, Stuttafords, Edgars, Woolworths etc. as well as an entire floor just dedicated to homeware. An excellent movie complex, and great restaurants, as well as a food court with reasonable chain store take-away/fast food.
Avoid the tourist trap curio shops - trinkets can be found at a fraction of the price at the markets.
Anything from Woolworths, Carrol Boyes items from Felicity's Gifts (but you will need a large budget - excellent and exclusive pewter items by a South African landmark designer), music from the CD Warehouse (great selection), linen from Loads of Linen, Homeware from @Home

We did go shopping a little bit in Joburg and the price level on some items is pretty good compared to Norway at least. There are some larger malls worth mentioning. Sandton City in the north of Joburg has a lot of stuff to offer. Here you can go shopping, go to the movies, go out to eat etc. We also went to Menlyn Park which is located in Pretoria. This is also a big shopping mall and it houses shops, an IMAX theater, Harley Davidson Pretoria etc. We also went to Fourways Mall to play adventure golf. If you have been reading the other trip reports you will notice that we enjoy putt-putt. There is a great 27 hole course here and when we played there it was at night and it was raining a bit. We could hear and sea frogs jumping around and when the ball went out of bounds (no, I never hit my ball out of bounds of course) we were a bit nervous to try to locate them because you never know what size frogs you will find :-)
There is a 14% VAT on stuff that you buy in South Africa and you can get this refunded if the amount exceeds ZAR 250. But to get the money back you have to keep the receipt and you have to present the goods that you have bought at the airport when leaving. You can also get this done at Sandton City to avoid queues at the airport. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Its a small but nice a shopping centre , cattering for your all your needs if you living at the Balalaika Hotel or Hilton ,its a nice place to go shopping as its situated right between those hotels. Its just down the raod from Sandton City and they have a large selection of restauarants , clothing stores and grocery stores.
