So many places have lights for Christmas, not least of which are the malls.
The Nelson Mandela Square has a model of a baobab tree lit for Christmas. One can buy small wire baobab trees at many of the wirework vendors, although real baobab trees are not usually found far south of the Tropic of Capricorn. However, this is very strongly evocative of an African Christmas.
These beautiful wire trees are nevertheless popular with locals and tourists alike at Christmas time.
I will be attending two other functions where there will be an array of Christmas lights - one at the Zoo and one at Emperors Palace - in December and I will post more pictures then.

Address: Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton
Right in the heart of Sandton City one finds the busy Nelson Mandela Square that offers plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes surrounded by shopping centres and the prestigious Michelangelo Hotel.
The square is almost always busy as a meeting point of locals and foreigners alike.

If you manage to get round to going to Sandton City shopping centre, you have go to to the square to see the big statue of Nelson Mandela. Its now called Nelson Mandela Square (used to be called Sandton Square).
The statue is quite big, measuring 6 metes tall and weiging 2,5 tons.
I took this picture and was not aware of the man happily posing in view of my camera, so that man is not, me or anyone I know... hehehe...

Address: Sandon City Centre
Recently had its name changed to Nelson Mandela Square from Sandton Square, as many locals will still refer to it as.
Its basically a large Square that is host to a wide variety of different restaurants. You can sample any cuisine from Chinese, to Japanese to a good old piece of steak.
Its got a great atmosphere for those wishing to sit outside on a nice evening enjoying their supper, or in the warm African sun during the day.
