Sun City Resort has a unique heartbeat and an African rhythm of its own and is unlike any other Resort destination in the world. This is pure fantasy and your every desire is met. There are four world-class hotels including the magnificent Palace of the Lost City that glitters like a jewel beneath the African sun, brilliant in its rain forest surroundings and luxurious in its detail and design.
Adjoining the Resort, is the beautiful Pilanesberg National Park, which will delight game viewers as it is a malaria free zone and home to the Big 5.
There is SO much to see and do here, for nature lovers, speed freaks, water babies, some gambling fun, family orientated activities, bird watchers, swimming, golfing.. you name it, you can find it here!
The brain child of a man who had a Standard 8 (which in international terms means he did not complete his basic schooling).
He went on to build an empire in Sun City, and then Lost City next door, in a terrain that is rugged and quite harsh.
He has built an oasis in the midst of this, and created employment for thousands of locals, where unemployment is rife.
We never got to go here as kids because we didn’t have the extra money for the excursion, but as a young adult I started to go a few times with friends from Technikon, for pop concerts (Richard Marx), and to spend the day in the sun and sea in The Lost City.
Not being one who enjoys gambling, I didn’t do much of that – but if you DO enjoy gambling, this is a gambling mecca!
They do conduct a 'responsible gambling policy', not sure exactly what that entails, but as it can become an addiction, they have obviously taken strides to prevent this. They work in conjunction with a National Responsible Gambling Programme Toll Free Helpline: 0800 006 008.
Easily driveable from Johannesburg (2 hours drive), this is a lovely day outing/week end getaway for the family, or with friends. There is a bus service that operates from some of Johannesburg's finest hotels.
Most tourists I have come accross in SA, have heard of Sun City if they ever heard anything about South Africa. What the reason for this would be I honestly don't know but a lot of people don't know that Sun City is approx an hour and a half north of Joburg (in Limpopo) province. So not really Joburg but anyway.... Sun City is one of SA's oldest and famous theme parks. Because Joburg does not border the coastline of SA a lot of people flock to dams and resorts like these over weekends and holidays to relax. Sun City will not be everyone's cup of tea (me included) but if you enjoy theme parks and nice sunny weather - chances are you will love it. There is quite a lot to do in terms of outdoor activities but I would reccomend looking at the website for yourself. Worth a visit...? I would say yes if you are not from SA and it's close enough to drive through and back for a day should you decide not to stay over....
If you are a visitor of Johannesburg and facy a bit of a change, then I would recommend that you considering one of the most amazing places you will visit, Africa's Kingdom of Pleasure, also better known as Sun City.
About 2 hours drive out of Johannesburg, deep in the rugged bushveld, you will find this amazing place. Situated in the heart of an ancient volcano a very unique experience awaits.
Offering a multitude of facilites to suit everyone, you will never run out of things to keep yourself busy.
From Casino's to watersports, to Nature drives where you can spot the Big 5.
Sun City has it all. Stay on one of the many luxurious hotels or if you want, just visit it for the day.
I would recommend visiting it, even if just for a day, its fabulous!
Transfers to Sun City leave Johannesburg International Airport daily at 09:30, 13:00 and 15h00.
Sun City transfers to Johannesburg leave Sun City daily at 10:00, 12:30 and 14:30.
Gold Reef city is one of our casino complexes in Johannesburg. It is 5 minutes drive from the centre of the City.....Sun City, which is our biggest casino resort is 140 kilos from Johannesburg, and an hour and a halfs drive. For those who do not get a chance to visit our major game reserves, the Pilansberg Game reserve is right next to Sun City. This reserve has self catering accomodation, and is home to the Big 5.. No visit to Johannesburg would be complete without a visit to Sun City
Pilansberg is a neighbour of Sun City and the Lost City.
A good idea is to live in one, and visit the other. Two vastly different experiences!
The park has over 200km of good dirt roads, so one feels confident as a driver to self-drive. They have guided day and night tours too.
The park is actually in the setting of an extinct volcano... with many rare types of plant life and rocks structures, with some minerals found too, it is studied by scientists and geologists from all over the world.
In the park you will find a number of Iron and Stone Age sites... very exciitng!
The whole park is bordered by 3 ridges/rings of hills. This structure of the park is named the 'Pilanesberg National Park Alkaline Ring Complex'.
Its vegetation is 'bushveld', settled inbetween the dry Kalahari desert and the more lush 'lowveld'.
This is in my opinion the best Resort in South Africa. Its about 2 hours drive from JNB but surely worth the drive.
This is perfect get away for the whole family. It has a casino , greater water world , nature walks , safari , a golf coarse and whole lot more.
Just checkout my Sun City Page for more photo`s to give you more insight about Sun City.
For all the outdoor people who love water , this is the best place to be at when at Sun City.
All you gotta to do is go over to the extremely beautiful Lost City where you will find the Valley of Waves. They have awesome waterslides , a man made beach which boast extremely large waves for ultimate fun. Beautiful nature walks all around the Palace of the Lost City is a must see.
This has to be a stop for all tourist.
We took a tour bus to take us to the Sun City,we arrieved there a little before 3pm.
There is a fee of 55 Rand per person to enter the Valley of Waves,,but after 3p.m it`s reduced to 45 Rand,,so we just waited few minutes til it became 3p.m sharp and paid the fees and had a wonderul time,
the water was freezing, and the artificial waves were amazing.
Valley of waves closes at 6p.m.
1USD$=7.2 Rand in Sep 2003
You can also rent towls, for about 10 Rand, but there is a 60 Rand ensurence on the towls, incase you "forgot" to take them back ;-)
It´s quite naff but it´s curios to see. Sun City is a casino, resort, beach... a mini-Las Vegas in Soth Africa. There are different hotels there, the most luxurious one: the Lost City, it´s said a 6 star hotel. Walking there you have the impression you are in a dream. There is even an artificial beach with waves! If you are planning to go to Pilanesberg and you have 2 days, the first day you can visit the Park and sleep in Sun City.
