I had a few friends over from Malaysia visiting JNB "All Ladies", we pull up to the Hotel and here comes this fancy BMW X5 who has been following me for a long time. 2 Guys in the BMW and they start calling the ladies to the car. Being the people they are with their heads screwed on properly on their shoulders they went inside the Hotel.
Don`t go to any car when guys are calling , they are probably up to no good. This is for your safeties sake. My personal experience in JNB is that the women here always run after guys with fancy cars and money. If they had to stop for a typical women in JNB , she would probably go to the car. Well not all women here in JNB is like that because I would be probably be generalising but many of them is.
Just keep on walking and make if you did`nt hear them. Just Ignor them , hopefully they will go away. Leave a Comment

We also stopped by Nelson Mandela’s first house in Orlando West in Soweto. The humble house was Mandela’s home from 1946 and it is a tiny place. I think that we had to pay 20 Rand per person to get in and we got a short 2 minute tour of the place. Yes, it is an intimate meeting with the home of a great leader but there is not much to see. And if you compare the entrance fee to other attractions that we went to I’m almost tempted to call it a overcharge. I would say that it is not worth a visit. Leave a Comment

Most tourists would want to buy 'ethnic stuff' - the Rosebank market is the best place for that (open weekends) but even better are the shops (there is a great one in the Zoo lake neighborhood of Parklake, next to the Spar Supermarket. Foreign traders go there first, and then sell the left overs at the market. Prices at the shop are good (better than in the street) and quality is superb (the real thang!) Leave a Comment

Unless you´ve got child don´t go. The name sounds splendid... but once there you just will be able to see 5 young elephants in captivity.
If you´ve got child you can spend half day there and have lunch. It´s possible to touch and feed the elephants. Gaunteg. Around 60 minutes driving from the North of Jo´burg. Leave a Comment

Don't use taxis or buses unless they are well marked and appear official. Don't hitchike, especially at night and don't visit townships unless you are on an official tour. Keep to well lit areas at night. Drive on the left side of the road. Leave a Comment

Everyone is warned about how dangerous Joburg is; but the truth is that it's a lot more dangerous than we're told. Do yourself a favour - don't go there. Leave a Comment

If you hate mixing with locals and enjoy recognising the language or accent of your own country, there's no better place to go to than the Sandton shopping area. And if you're into overpriced curios and imported fancy brand clothing you'll really be at home. On the other hand, if you're looking for a little bit more of an authentic experience, avoid Sandton, you're not missing much.
Make sure your credit card is loaded.
Rosebank. It's the same league as Sandton, but it's much more authentic and has that superb local goodies market.
