St Mark's Anglican Cathedral, designed by Sophy Gray and built in 1850, attained cathedral status in 1911. It was the smallest cathedral in the southern hemisphere until extensions in 1924-25. The nave is the oldest section. Its most distinctive feature is the number of stained glass windows in relation to its size.

If you are into surfing, then this is the area for you to visit without a doubt. Victoria Bay is one of South Africa's top surfing spots. It's a relatively small beach, with limited parking and it can get quite crowded in summer. The beach was closed when we were there, due to a whale that died on the beach and there was fear of sharks in the area.

The Outeniqua Choo Choo is a steam train service that runs between the towns of George and Knysna. There are in fact two trains departing from both ends simultaneously for most of the year. The trains pass one another along the route where there is a second section of tracks.
The journey, lasting about 2 hours will take you through some spectacular Garden Route countryside.

Like a reluctant superhero, the powervan will take you up the Outeniqua mountain, with a nice included picnic.
It can also be arranged as a cycling trip, where you get to come down on a mountain bike via the historic (and narrow) Montagu pass,

Known as the Moederkerk (Mother Church), the Dutch Reformed church in George is an architectural beauty. Set beneath the mountain, on Courtenay street, it was originally built as to be viewable from most parts of the then small town.

About 20 mins. west of George, are two little places called Tergniet and Reebok. At spring low tide, the rock shelves are a wonderful place to shell oysters, and have them fresh on the rocks with some lemon, pepper & a nice bottle of champagne.
Try not to net the wildlife in the picture though!
