Kariega Game Reserve: EXCELLENT FOOD

the food at Kariega was very good, hot dishes were piping hot, not lukewarm, and the plates were warm too. the retaurant is buffet style with a choice of carvery roast meats each evening, fish dishes and vegetarian options
there is a well stocked salad bar at both lunch and dinner and some of the best home made soup I have ever tasted and the desserts are yummy
a hearty breakfast is a great idea before a game drive and there was plenty of choice, an honourable mention goes to the sausages which were really tasy

The dining room has wonderful panoramic views and is nicely decorated, on our last night the kitchen and waiting staff sang and daned for us, we didnt know this was going to happen and it was great

our meals were included with our accommodation, but the restaurant is also open to self catering guests

Favorite Dish: I dont have a favourite dish, all the food was very good

"Stanley's" is the best restaurant in Kenton, situated a bit out of town on the road to Grahamstown. From the terrace in the lush subtropical garden it has a splendid view of the Kariega River below.

Favorite Dish: Varied menu ,You can enjoy homestyle cooking in a relaxed country atmosphere with a spectacular view of the Kariega River.

ROUGH SEA

On the 30th November 1895 the Norwegian Braque,"VOLO" built in 1892 in Arendal, set sail from Gutenberg,Sweden.

For 4 months nothing much newsworthy was reported until the evening just before midnight on the 5th of March1896.

The wind was blowing and the sea was rough.
The crew of 12 including the Captain and his cat were stranded i mile west from Bushmans River Mouth.

A local farmer ,Charles Butt with the help of Kaaljon Scheepers brought the entire crew including the Captain and his cat to safety.

Pieces of the wreckage can be found 1 mile west from Bushmans River Mouth.

The anchor and signal cannon have been restored and preserved. These monumental sites can be viewed at the Bushmans River Mouth Municipality and the Volo Galley.

Favorite Dish: Scrumptious daily meals ,Bushman's sauces and Jalapeno chillies.

Pies and homebakes are also available.

Homewoods: Fresh Sea Air

Situated at the Kariega River Mouth, you have a beautiful view of the river, beach and sea. A resturant with the fresh sea air passing through the window. On a pleasant evening, sit out on the deck and watch as the last of the sun worshippers reluctantly leave the beach as the sun sets.

Favorite Dish: Try some fresh fish, it's always tasty!

Bushmans River - M van Heerden

Sit out in the sun on the deck. In the distance are the rolling green hills and rumbling sea...down below is the river.
With the birds chirping away and the fresh breeze, it makes for an unforgettable Sunday lunch or evening meal.

Favorite Dish: We made the most of the Sunday lunch. For a fixed price you get a starter, main Sunday lunch and a choice of desert.
