    Oliphants River View

    A Dry Oliphants River

Favorite thing: An advantage of game viewing in October, at the end of the dry winter season, is that the waterholes and rivers are all parched. This has the effect of bunching the game up for much easier viewing. Here, the view from the restaurant area at Oliphants Camp shows the yellowish normal width of the river, as compared to the few pools that actually have water in them at this time of the year. While we were there, we watched a herd of elephants enjoying themselves down by the water (it does require binoculars though!).

Fondest memory: On a couple of occasions, we saw elephants tearing branches off trees as they searched for fresh foliage to eat. Also, we managed to see two instances of very young elephants accompanying the herds. These are always very interesting creatures to watch!
