There are many clubs in all...

by Kaydee

There are many clubs in all the major cities. I would suggest to avoid Johannesburg central city. The surrounding suburbs such as Bruma, Northcliff, Randburg, Sandton, Melville, to name just a few , are hives of nightlife. 'The Waterfront' just off Republic Rd in Randburg has about eighty odd resturants/pubs/clubs situated around a lake. Usually age restrictions are enforced. The legal drinking age is 18. All South Africans have identity books which can be asked for before admission. Some places have age restrictions of up to 25 yrs of age. I recommend taking your passport with you if you plan on going to a bar/club. Some places do not accept jeans in their dress codes so you will need something a little smarter.

Another postcard of two drinking Rhino's. I am not sure, but I think you can't make pictures like this in Kruger Park, for the simple reason that the park closes at sunset. In Etosha (Namibia) you can do this, because there are lighted waterholes next to the rest camps (see my Namibia page).

Joe Kools, Durban, North Beach

Joe Kools, Durban, North BeachIt's a pub/retaurant on the beach in Durban. It has a dancefloor and it also has an open roof for people to go to. It's great, any time of year, but can get really hot inside during summer (Nov-March) It really buzzes on a Sunday night. Anything goes, except going barefoot. It's a beachy place

Night Animals

I went all the way to South Africa not for a city nightlife but the nature nightlife. I was lucky to have few sessions at night to hang around and catch few nice animal shots.
