Once a workshop of the old Durban Railway Station, THE WORKSHOP Shopping Center has a unique atmosphere with a wide variety of quality goods. While we were strolling around, a one-man band was playing and singing "Nights in White Satin", our very favourite Moody Blues song. We treated ourselves to tea and apple pie at the Mall's open-air restaurant.

One of my very favourite things to do in Durban was to browse at the many FLEA MARKETS scattered throughout the Beachfront. Many colourful displays were laid out on the sidewalks for all to see. Shop at one of the Southern Hemispheres largest shopping centres -Gateway shopping centre.
Gateway is more than a shopping mall - it`s billed as a `Theatre of Shopping` offering visitors, much more than the average shopping center. The impressive structure, situated alongside the N2 highway in Umhlanga Rocks, houses a vast array of shops, cinemas and restaurants PLUS a huge standing wave known as Drex, a mega skate park designed by international expert Tony Hawk, the highest climbing wall imaginable and a go-kart track, putt-putt course and a challenging 4x4 track.

This is a huge shopping centre , they definitely cater for all your shopping needs. They have everything from all your designer stores to supermarkets and even a place to surf in the shopping centre.
There is also a skate park , a Imax Theatre , A 4x4 Track and one thing that I must say that they have these fountains in the mall , Its the BEST that I have ever seen.
You`ll definitely find what you looking for here. One of the crafts I liked looking at the best were the NATIVE CARVINGS. They were beautifully done in images of animals and natives and came in all shapes and sizes. I also enjoyed looking at all the various masks, as I wanted to bring some home with me. I ended up buying three different ones, all in different places. Here I am again "looking" to see what the vendor has to offer. There wasn't much interesting here. The BIG lady who was selling her wares here begged me to buy something so she could eat. This shop was a small shop located in the
WORKSHOP shopping centre. It had many African Artifacts for sale such as Masks ,Spears, carved out of wood faces of African women,wooden salad spoons etc
There are many special items for sale in the shops in Durban , and many of them were made very well and they were very reasonably priced.Lori bought the big Mask in this picture at this store.
You can always bargain over the price , you can tell the sales person if you think the item is overpriced , and just see if you can come up with a reasonable price.. This is a shopping centre, the building used to be a railway workshop of the Old Durban
Station,this station was converted into South Africa's first theme shopping centre, with shops, cinemas and restaurants.

Situated in the area of Umhlanga Ridge, Gateway theatre of shopping is a cutting edge leisure shopping centre of over 150,000m2.
Consisting of over 290 stores, its one of the largest shopping centres in Africa where customers can enjoy a range of activities ranging from shopping, entertainment, food, fashion, and even extreme sports.
Gateway boasts a surf and extreme sports centre, featuring the worlds first left and right breaking standing wave, or also better known as D-Rex, putting it on the world tour calendar for indoor surfing.
In addition to that it also features the worlds highest indoor climbing wall which is about 24m in height.
This really is a very very cool place, its got everything you could possibly want in a shopping mall, and more that what you can actually imagine!!
