Surfing by MikeAtSea Durban’s beaches are one of the best areas in the world for surfing. Some beaches are protected against shark attacks with nets and a strong surf from the Indian Ocean during most times of the year give optimal surfing conditions. Leave a Comment Theme: SurfingDirections: South Africa gives you more then 3000 km of coast... just watch out for shark protection :-)

Me at the Aliwal Shoal by MikeAtSea About an hours drive south of Durban is the town of Scottburgh. From here launches are made to the Aliwal Shoal a spectacular reef some 5 km off the coast. Quo Vadis Dive Charters are my preferred operator and I have taken many dives with them to the shoal. They are next door to the Cutty Sark Hotel and run a very professional operation. Launching from the beach just outside the dive centre you will be taken some 5 km off the coast to dive this spectacular reef. Make sure to book - since they are always very busy - especially during weekends and public holidays.
You can hire all your equipment here, and also refill your cylinders. Durban Ice Rink by JackiKasner Ice Skating is fun and a good team building sport. Kids would love it!!! It is not the best ice rink, but it is ok. The people are friendly and that's what makes it even more fun. It is about half the size of an olimpic ice rink.
Dress warmly, after all, it is an ice rink. If you haven't got your own skates, you can hire a pair from the rink. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: 81 Sol Harris Crescent, North BeachPhone: +27 031 332 4597.Directions: opposite the Drive-InnWebsite: / Other Contact: /

This is a great hang out mate!! by GerryFM Oribi Gorge is a stunning Nature Reserve situated on the South Coast of Kwazulu Natal, about an hour and a half's drive from Durban. It is home to what is apparently the worlds highest commercial abseil...... 180m!!! Not for those suffering from vertigo, but certainly something for those adrenalin junkies!!! The first 45m is a cliff abseil where one traditionally abseils with their feet against the cliff while the remaining 65m is a free abseil allowing one to take in the beauty of the gorge from a different angle. Beginners are welcome to abseil and will be given full instruction on the techniques and only when they have satisfied certain requirements will they be lowered over the edge of the 170m waterfall
Abseiling Equipment is supplied at the Gorge. Sea Kayack on Durban's beach by GerryFM Well Durban has great beaches and and a beautiful coastline! A great excursion or activity to possibly do during stay is to go on a Sea Kyacking Safari, where you are sure to enjoy some unique views of Durban!! Now you can explore in safe, comfortable sit-on-top kayaks, which require almost no balance or skill! It is the ideal craft for both the explorer who wishes to challenge the water, and the casual who simply wishes to all but float out in a calm bay and see the mountain from another perspective. You can even sit and paint or sketch in your kayak!!! "Sea Kayaking" instructors are available to assist those who require a boost in their proficiency and to ensure that your safety is maintained throughout your tour of choice.
All equipment can be hired from the tour organisers. Leave a Comment Theme: Kayaking/CanoeingAddress: Ring for detailsPhone: +27-32-9462941Website: could not find one

Dressed for the occasion at the Durban July by GerryFM This is South Africa's premier horse racing event. People from all of the country flock to Durban over the weekend of the Durban July (usually the first weekend in July), mainly to be seen at this prestigious event. The Horse Racing aside, the event is more about networking, dressing up and generally just partying the whole day.... it is great fun. There are various races throughout theday, where you can take a punt on the horses ..... just try not to be like me and back the donkeys all the time!!! At the end of the day, there is a bit of clean fun in the "13th" race, which is for slightly "rubber faced" men who have been indulging in a few cold ones throughout the day, and they stage their own race down the home stretch in nothing but their "Birthday Suits" !!!!! The fashion stakes here are also a major attraction, and you will definately find an abundance of jaw droppingingly good look people and outfits!!!!
If you are a jockey, I would suggest you bring a horse along!!!! Otherwise, dress up, bring a fat wallet and your entrance ticket!!!!
