About 20 minutes drive from Ladysmith, Spioenkop is one of the areas oldest Nature reserves, and has a great variety of antelope, as well as rhino, giraffe, and a few smaller carnivores.
the Park is relatively small, with good driving trails, so you're guaranteed to see a variety of animals.
They might not have the big 5, (well, they have 1 of them), but for an afternoon drive that costs only about R20 per person, i highly recommend this reserve.

Inyathi Game Farm is about 20 minutes from Ladysmith, is not too big, but has a variety of wildlife. It's also right next door to Weenen Nature reserve (which has most of the Big 5). Go on one of the horse rides (Dont take Casper, hes a bugger), and get really close to the animals.

On Murchison street, this museum covers the history of Ladysmith from it's inception, & through the Boer War, in great detail. It is also the site of the local Information office. The entrance fee is a measly R2 (about 20 pence), and you definitely get more than your moneys worth!
They also have a guest book to fill in after your self guided tour.

On the top of this hill, at the end of january 1900, there has been a big battle between the British army and the Boers. During the mist the British sneeked up the hill. They thought there were at the top. In the morning they found out it wasn't. Almost uncovered ... It led into a big defeat of the British Army.
I scanned my map of the mountain. If you like to see apicture of the mountain, look at the Ladysmith main page.
Ow, By the way , 10 Rand pp should cover the entrance...

Not many people know about the horse riding opportunities in Ladysmith. The first is Inyathi (about 20 minutes from Ladysmith), and the other is about 2km out of town. They have wonderful horses (Some ex-race horses), and a few excellent horse trails. Well worth the visit.
