Margate Public Pool
You will have your own reasons for swimming in the public pool rather than on the beach. For us, it was because the children saw it. I suppose they really needed to sit in the fountain in the middle of the pool, and slide down the slides. For us, it was a lovely diversion lying on the green lawns under the palm trees and watching the passing parade. Entry is free.

Riverbend Nile crocodiles
View Africa's fearsome Nile crocks close-up. Witness the awe-inspiring feeding frenzy every Sunday at 15h00. Crocodile hatching demonstrations are a natural phenomenon not to be missed, they have a lovely video playing all day long that will tell you all about the crocks and their breeding etc. Do not miss it, take the 16 minutes to watch it. It was worth my while. There are different camps, showing you the birth year of the crocs and which country they came from. They had quite a bit of hatchlings there that was born on the 18th December 2008. So they are still very tiny, but can still cause you harm with their teeth, if provoked.
New Snake House
The Snake House is home to some of Africa's deadliest snakes. Snake demonstrations and the info centre help to dispel some of the myths surrounding these fascinating reptiles.
Art Gallery & Curio Shop
Original paintings, hand-crafted pottery, beadwork and jewellery from some of South Africa's top artists and crafters makes this a gallery well worth visiting. The farm is also complemented by a well stocked curio shop.
This fully licenced café is renowned for its cream teas, waffles and some of the best lunches on the coast. The Crocodile Café specialises in crocodile, ostrich and other sumptuous dishes.
Lake Eland Game Reserve
A day drive to the reserve is something that you should really include on your itenerary when in Margate. Gate times are from 07h00 to 18h30 in summer time and from 07h00 to 17h30 in winter time. You can do the drive in your own vehicle at a cost of R25 per person , R22.50 for pensioners. You can also stay with them and they have various options available. This is also the place where you will find the longest long-drop in Africa. The suspension bridge provides fun for the children, but the wind was bad when we got there, so the walk to the other side was not so nice.
Oribi Gorge Hotel
I unfortunately have to give this one a special tip as the best part of the Oribi gorge is to be seen from the hotel property. The cost is R25 to go in. The roads are not so hot, but you can do it with a normal sedan motorcar. From here you can see the camel rock, the chimney and many more.
A visit to Mac Bananas is a must in my book. They offer so much there. You will find from fresh fruit, cheeses, biscuits to wine. They even have a small nursery there.
The Oribi gorge is something not to be missed. The Oribi gorge is one of the most remarkable natural paradises in the world. It offers majestic rock formations, waterfalls and much much more.
You are in sugarcane world here. So everywhere you will see either the banana plantations or the sugar plantations.
Riverbend snake park
Do not miss these little fella's. They are not my favorite animal/reptile,but they have fantastic coloring. Also you learn alot about them when visiting the park
