The Nottingham Road brewery is one of the more enduring microbreweries in South Africa, and one which seems to have got on top of its supply chain and distribution issues (always an Achilles Heel for these operators). My husband is rather fond of their product, so we offered it on tap at our wedding reception!
The brewery is located in the beautiful shady grounds of the lovely Rawdon's Hotel (see my restaurant tip), which is an ideal combination for those looking to satisfy rumbly tummies and slake their thirst at the same time!
Products on offer (some complete with whimsical health warnings) include:
Whistling Weasel Pale Ale
Pickled Pig Porter ("our Porter is good for you – the more you drink, the better you feel. It also means that Pickled Pig won’t give you a hangover. So you can get as pickled as… well, as a pig, and feel fine tomorrow morning")
Tiddly Toad Lager ("some Tiddly Toad fans believe that regular drinking of this brew gives you more years before you croak").
Pye-Eyed Possum Pilsner ("should you find yourself unexpectedly horizontal, simply explain to your friends that you are playing Possum".
Cheers!
P.S. If you're concerned about the possible child abuse in the photo, our daughter fell asleep during a nappy change whilst we were having lunch here ... honest!
