  • I visited the crocodile farm and wasn't really expecting to be surprised by what I saw...but was I? Huge is not the word to decsribe the beasts. They look as ancient as they are and are well cared for and respected by those taking care of them . Get up close...and I mean close. You'll even be allowed to feed them. Scary to watch though. Poor chickens.

The North Sand Bluff Lighthouse Complex is an exciting partnership between the National Port Authority, South African Lighthouse Adventure Tours Organisation (SALATO) and Northern Sand Bluff cc. The complex opened to the public in December 2004 offering "The Best View of the Coast on the Coast" from the top of the Lighthouse, quality holiday accommodation and "The Ships Galley Coffee and Curio Shop". There is also a museum with artifacts from the Sćo Joćo shipwreck in 1552 off Port Edward and the Lighthouse is the starting or ending point of the "Aloe Trail" and the "Twin Wrecks" Adventure Trail.
There is 86 stairs in the lighthouse that will get you to the top, however in order to do the last few stairs, there is one massive one, which could be problamatic for ladies and the elderly.

This is the smallest desert in the world. Covering an area of approx 200 x200 meters. This round shaped desert in the middle of this tropical area has many wondering what caused it. There are many stories as to how the desert was "developed", but that it is phenomenal is not to be argued.

In order to get to the The Umtamvuna Nature Reserve, you have to go through a farm where you pay entrance fee before visiting the reserve and gorge. The reserve is famous for its magnificent views of the deep Umtamvuna River Gorge. It is wheelchair friendly with wooden walkways and have a lovely view platform from where you can feast your eyes on the lovely scene unfolding before you.

Umtamvuna is a treasure house of rare and endemic trees and plant species in a diversity of habitats, with spectacular wild flower displays after the spring rains. The reserve has the best nature walks along the entire KwaZulu Natal coastline, with several marked trails to explore. A large colony of the endangered Cape Vulture can be observed on their nesting sites.

A small picnic site is situated above the office within the reserve, and a day visit is a rewarding experience. No accommodation is available in the Umtamvuna Nateure Reserve but excellent accommodation is plentiful in the nearby towns.

This family run most southern African coffee plantation is run by family of three generations. Head of the clan Doug Tupper is the roast master and sees that every batch of beans are roasted to perfection and the same exacting standards. If you love coffee, you should visit this farm and taste the different coffees before buying your favorite blend. Booking is essential if you would like to do the tour.
They even have a coffee club that you can join and then they will send you coffees from around the world on a monthly basis, much like the wine of the month club.
