The Mphafa hide is a really nice hide in the park. It is very different from the more popular Bhejane Hide. It is a smaller hide that over looks a small water hole but sits quite high. In the wet season it would over look a small water fall as the river bed drops somewhat dramatically here. The most interesting part about this hide is the birds. We saw mocking chats, golden breasted bunting, glossy starling, blue waxbill, blacked collared barbet, fork tailed drongo, hoopoe, spotted weaver, yellow eyed canary, blue-naped moosebird, southern black tit, and marico sunbird. Wildebeest and duiker visited the water hole and the dozen turtles also made for some entertainment.

The Bhejane Hide is one of the nicest hides in Africa. It is a large hide that over looks an equally large water hole. Animals come all day to drink in large numbers. There are plenty birds to keep your interest like brownhooded kingfisher, egyptian goose, mousebirds as well as frequent animals coming to drink like, impala, nyala, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, warthog, buffalo, and even white rhino. The hide is very close to the water; therefore your photo opportunities are very nice.
The seats are cushioned and bathrooms are available in the parking lot. We stayed here nearly all day and saw so much without driving all over the place.

I consider this an activity but done by the Rhino , pulling yourself out of the mud when you are that heavy cannot be an easy task, but it is sure interesting to watch.
