Dangerous?

by MikeAtSea

am reading a lot of writings about South Africa being dangerous - hence my advise and five pence to that subject. South Africa is a large bustling country and as safe or dangerous as any other place on earth. One of the main reasons people are getting mugged is because they are careless. Do not carry large sums of money with you - do not flash jewellery and ask locals for advice as to where to go. If you are cautious and travel with your eyes open you will find South Africa as pleasant and SAFE as any other city or region in the world.

Aids!

South Africa has got one of the highest HIV infection rates in the world, with estimation that one in three black South African's has the virus today. Hence use prevention; else you probably play Russian roulette with a fully loaded gun.

Malaria!

by MikeAtSea

The regions of Northern KwaZulu Natal are Malaria Region! I have had it twice and it is not fun...! If you are traveling in this region take precautions towards Malaria. If you do not take medication in prevention and you have the following symptoms after your return go straight to your doctor and tell him you were in a Malaria region: Flue like symptoms, combined with headache, backache and fever. Remember malaria kills almost a Million people each year and the longer you wait the more the parasite will multiply in your blood – the result is fatal!

Attack of the Birds!

by Bwana_Brown

During our first evening in Royal Natal Park, we sat outside at our little steel patio table to admire the view as we ate our humble meal. It was not long before we were surrounded by a menagerie of birds: Red-Winged Starlings, Black-Eyed Bulbuls, Weavers, Grey-Headed and House Sparrows as well as the ever present Guinea Fowl. We had quite a laugh as we fed them a few bread crumbs and observed their antics! However, the chill of the evening air finally drove us inside where we sat by the front window, sipping our wine and reminiscing about the trip beside our space heater. The next morning, the birds got the upper hand! As we tried to sit out for a breakfast of toast and cheese with drink boxes, they gradually swarmed us until we had to give up our table and retreat inside to finish our meal in a more relaxed fashion! I guess that we brought it on ourselves!

Dangerous animals in gameparks!

by tompt

There are many gameparks in KwaZulu Natal, most are worth visiting. And they all host several dangerous animals. An animal that is very keen on getting your food is the hyena. Watch out for him at night!
