Favorite thing: The decision was made: we are walking down. Today I am not sure if it was the right thing to do - we didn't know the way, we had no map or guide, we had no idea what to expect. By the way, one shouldn't underestimate the Table Moubtain - although it is only 1078 metres high, it can be really dangerous, especially because of the weather that can change within minutes.
Still on the top we asked someone to show us the right direction and we started to climb down. The way seemed not very hard - a clearly visible path winding down in form of stone steps. We stopped now and then to admire the views and take off the next layer of clothes as it was getting warmer and warmer. The first half an hour it was euphoria, the next pleasure, then came the thought: "How far is it still to the end?" After two hours we were tired and when we finally got down after three hours I was simply exhausted. I felt the pain in my leg muscles for three days to come and going down any steps was just a horror. But I don't regret it as we wouldn't have seen all those stunning views if we hadn't decided to climb down.

Favorite thing: To be in Cape Town and not to look at it from the top of the Table Mountain? Impossible! That's why on our first day in the city, following the advice of our charming host lady, we headed for the MOUNTAIN. That day of July 2010 was sunny, but cold ( which is not surprising as it was winter). After standing in a short queue to buy the tickets, we jumped into the cable car (current rates and special offers as well as loads of info are available on their website - the address below).
Although it took just a couple of minutes to go to the top, the ride was breathtaking. During the trip the floor turns around and that's how you can fully take in the beauty that surrounds you. We were lucky that the top was not wrapped in the 'tablecloth', which is often the case.
Soon we were on the top and got pretty excited as the views to each side were just stunning. But it was hard to stand in one place for a longer moment or even take a good picture because of a very strong wind and piercing cold - the touch of the metal parts of the camera was just unbearable (unluckily, we didn't have gloves). Probably because of the cold we didn't spend there as much time as we should have to fully appreciate the place. Soon the decision was made: we are walking down.

Favorite thing: A visit to Cape Town isn't complete without a trip up Table Mountain. If you arrive there & the weather is good, I'd advise you to go up there as soon as possible.
The mountain is famous for its tablecloth - a thin white cloud formation that covers the top during certain weather conditions. Don't do as I did and leave your visit to your last day. Once up there you may find out that the tablecloth has arrived & you can't see a thing. It was actually clear when I set off.

Favorite thing: Capetownians are very fond of their mountain and have good reason to be. Table Mountain is instantly recognisable and it overlooks thge city like a mother looking over her children.
For those of us travelling in to work from the "Northern Suburbs", the mountain is never the same as it was the day before. There is always a subtle change in colour or the way the clouds roll over its face when the Cape Doctor is blowing.

Favorite thing: This is an appeal to all of you visiting my beautifull city to please be carefull especially in the summer months with fires. This fire was started by a tourist, whose holiday turned out a total disaster. He flicked his sigaret butt from his car window while driving on the mountain and thus set the mountain alight. During this fire, one lady (also a visitor to our country) was killed from the smoke inhalation. PLEASE PLEASE if you are a smoker, be extra carefull, I want you to enjoy your holiday and go home with pleasant thoughts about my country.

Favorite thing: Table Mountain is famous for its 'Table cloth' - a thin, white and whispy cloud formation that flows effortesly over the top like a waterfall, only to disappear into thin air halfway down the slope. Legend and myths abound... most saying that a retired pirate, on climbing this flat-topped mountain, met up with the devil himself! Trying to protect his soul, and feeling desperate, the pirate challenged the devil to a smoking competition. They then stoked up their wooden pipes and have been smoking ever since! haha A quaint tale indeed :)
The scientific (and more boring!) explanation is that the summer anti-cyclones bring warm, moist air up from the south, which then condenses to form a white cloud layer on the much cooler mountain top, which then spills over the city side to only disperse at the warmer, lower altitude. Quite something hey?

Favorite thing: Situated on table mountain high above the city are a few waterfalls...easy to reach. If you take the cable car road and keep on with it for a fair distance, you will pass 2 waterfalls with catchment pools...keep going and when you get to the last one stop and take a cool refreshing swim on-top of the world.i love to do this whenever i get the chance as the waterfall is fresh from the mountain and very cold, and the view....what a view(see pic)it`s a little secret so don`t be telling everybody.....enjoy...
Fondest memory: The waterfalls and the beaches are the most awesome things in and around this great city.
