The Spur, as it's generally called, is part of the first South African restaurant chain. It's vaguely reminiscent of Denny's or The Embers in the US, though the decor inside is rather more sophisticated. We were quite surprised when we discovered a sort of Southwest theme with graphics of saguaro cacti and Navajo rug designs on stained glass chandeliers. Probably the best thing about it, though, is eating outside on the balcony with a superb view of the harbor and Table Mountain. As for the food, they have great steaks, excellent seafood, and quite a few Mexican items, too, such as quesadillas and fajitas. I had a chicken fajita salad one evening, which was decent, though the guacamole wasn't the best I've ever had. | | | | Hillcrest Berry Orchards.: Thank you "berry" much! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Hillcrest Berry Orchards is a restaurant with a kind of special "berry magic". This family owned restaurant takes pride in serving the finest local dishes with a touch of class. Not only is it a restaurant which is divided into three sections, but also a "farmstall", where you can purchace the finest frozen berries, jams, desserts and also other little gifts to take home. Biscotti is also on sale, handbags and lots of other little gifts. In this restaurant, the menu is also on sale! What I like about the restaurant is the service, the choice of meals and of course the variety of berry desserts! When you do decide to visit this restaurant when you are are in the vicinity of Cape Town. Book early.......This restaurant can get "berry busy"! A definate "Must" for all tourists.
The choices in this restaurant is far too difficult! A kind of "berry magic"! Leave a Comment Theme: LocalComparison: about averageAddress: P.O. Box 2091, Dennesig 7601, Stellenbosch. | | | | Melissa's, Claremont: Chillin' like a local (from Santa Barbara) | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Melissa's is half upscale food shop (try their specialty jams and chutneys by all means), and half superior cafe with tables inside and out and a luncheon buffet that is definitely worth the trip. A recent visit included Thai beef with noodles, a quiche with butternut squash and feta cheese, a salad of carrot, Granny Smith apples and mint in balsamic vinegar, and several other innovative and beautifully presented dishes; the menu changes daily, but there are also stock sandwiches available.
I liked everything I tried on the luncheon buffet, but the knock-your-socks-off experience occurred when I tried the Christmas nectarine relish, which includes coriander, cardamom, onion, cinnamon...well, it gave an entirely new spin to our filet mignon! | | | | Marco's African Place.: Soweto / Rainbow Cuisine | Tip Rating: | | | | |
" "The first black chef to own a mainstream restaurant in Cape Town, Marco Radebe is a big, warm-hearted man who will make you feel right at home in his ethnic eatery where you're likely to spot well-known media personalities and local politicians. '" " I was introduced by article in SA WineNews, but i wonder if Marco worked with shorty Goh at #5 Commissioner then Golden City ? Any Capetonian want to find out for me ?
" " His Greek-style lamb, tripe, crocodile and ostrich are legendary. 'There's a universality about food,' says Marco. 'Whether I'm cooking traditional samp and tripe, Mediterranean or Chinese food, I find similarities in the way different cultures do things.' " " I will when there, call for a Mgudu as a starter; then the Ostrich-fusion chinese/greek method; and special of the day ;-p Leave a Comment Theme: AfricanComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: 15 Rose Lane, Bo-Kaap, Cape TownPhone: 021 -423 5412Directions: Five minutes from downtown Cape Town; cnr Strand & Buitengracht streetsWebsite: http://marcosafricanplace.co.za/ Other Contact: http://www.wine.co.za/News/News.
