Sahara Park Newlands - Formely known as the Newlands Sports Stadium is the place where thousands of spectators gather to watch their favourite teams compete against each other. Rugby, being the all time favourite of nearly every South African is being watched on this popular stadium. It is on this stadium that the The Rugby World Cup and not forgetting The Cricket World Cup was played. The locals fans make a point of not missing out one single game. Whether it may be rugby or cricket. Another popular game in South Africa is soccer, and the locals come in their thousands to watch their favourite team battle it out. The atmosphere within the stadium is normally "out of this world" at this ground. It does not really which game is being played. A wonderful stadium to watch any game.

Depending on the season or game. Cricket is normally played in summer - Watch the locals have a braai (barbeque) and join in. Swimming gear is allowed to for those spectators just wanting to bask in the sun! During the winter months, bring along your jackets or even a blanket! Do what the locals do. It is all good fun.........South African style! Soccer........Well, it depends whether you will get a seat. A normally frantic crowd!

    Beneath the surface
  • Tip Rating:
  • Although many divers bemoan the cold water of Cape Town, it is the kelp beds that thrive in the cold water that give the coast such a rich diversity of sea life. Justin's Cave on the Atlantic side and Castle Rocks in False Bay are rated as some of the best. If you're boat-diving, the five wrecks (sunk deliberately between 1972 and 1983 to form artificial reefs) in Smitswinkel Bay are colourful and a haven for marine life. If you're after a thrill, you can also dive in the predator tank at the Aquarium in Cape Town, where you can get up close and personal with ragged tooth sharks and a variety of large fish.

    When the flags fly high!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Cricket is one of South africa's (including Cape Tonians) favourite spectator games. So, when an International game is played, all fans either make their way to the stadium when the game is being played in their home town, watch the game on television or watch it at their nearest sports cafe or local pub. The flags are always flying high! These pictures were taken whilst watching television on the 26th February, 2006. An International game between South Africa and Australia. South Africa won the one day International games with a stunning victory by three games to two. It is a different story with the tests series, Australia seems to be on the winning side.

On a hot day, an umbrella. Otherwise you can always hire an umbrella when you get to the stadium. Beachwear is allowed at all the stadiums for a sun tan. A flag to support your country! Otherwise, just enjoy the game on the telly!!

    Planning your trip?
  • Tip Rating:
  • Planning a trip of any kind to South Africa? May I suggest you contact Maritha at Winners Tours to assist you with your requirements. They have been awarded the contract to do the land arrangements for the 2008 IPU (Inter-Parliamentary Union) conference to be held in Cape Town later this year. Placing 2000+ delegates into beds takes some doing
