With so many mountain ranges surrounding the Cape, hiking is a popular pastime. There are numerous trails that take several days as well as day walks up Table Mountain. Before embarking on a trip up Table Mountain it is essential that you contact the Mountain Club of South Africa - (021) 465-3412. Without an experienced guide many people have lost their way, sometimes with fatal consequences. Another well-known activity is "kloofing". This is a combination of hiking and swimming along a river in a ravine and is great fun.

Well of course Table Mountain is the must see of Cape Town. You can get on top of it either by car or by foot. But if you go by foot be well prepared, take water and good shoes.Me and my friend didnt it took us 3-4 hours of climbing , and the top always looked closer than it really was.when we got on the top we didnt have money to get the cable car and we were dead from exhaustion to try get down by foot+ it was getting dark and cold. so we couldnt anyway, luckily the lady that was the operator at the cable car house, let us go for free, she sort of sneaked us in, that was really sweet of her. never got her name, but i'd like to send a thank you

Deon told us that there are 350 different routes for the adventurous to climb Table Mountain. Some routes are a lot more difficult than others, thus depending on the starting point, the climb will take about 2.5 hours to 5 hours. Get a guide as the treacherous weather may put you in danger! The view of Cape Town from up there will make you climb it again and again!

Shark dive! If you can you should definitely go on a shark dive. Most tours start in Goose Bay, a small village outside of Hermanus (a 2 hour drive from Cape Town).
From what I understand the quality of the tours vary quite a bit. I went with Brian (can't remember his last name) on his boat 'The Predator'.
He is the skipper used by National Geographic and really knows his stuff.
See picture.

Address: Goose Bay
The pic is showing Lion's Head from Camps Bay. Walking/hiking on top of Lion's Head. Depending where you start you need about two to four hours time. Enjoy the sights and sundowners.
We did it often on friday afternoon to finish the working week.
Enjoy a picnic lunch or a drink on the top (weather permitting) before descending back down to Town.
You have to bring your own food and beverage in a backpack.

getting down table mountain by foot can be very tricky. I felt like climbing down right to Camps Bay beach because weather was beautyful, but as you can see it's very dangerous! Please don't even try!

It's really worth to walk up (or down) Table montain. Start at the cablecar station and go thru devils peak if you don't wanna climb. It's still very steep and make really sure you're wearing good shoes - have fun :-)

The Table Mountain, of course. You can easily spend a whole day hiking around. You won't get tired of the ever changing scene.
It's very nice to wait and watch the sun set from above, but try to get away slightly before. Everyone waits to see the sunset and you might get cought by the after-sunset-rush-for-the-last-funicular, which really spoils the magic of the moment.
Beautiful view of Cape Town and its surroundings.
