Air Travel: Airport lounges
  • Tip Rating:
  • Something I was not aware of untill recently - if you are a Dinerscard holder, you can use the airport lounge whilst waiting for your flight to depart at no cost to yourself. Make use of it, it is absolutely worth it if you have quite some time to spend at the airport.

  • Tip Rating:
  • The center isn't so big, so most things you can do on foot. We also took a taxi to go to the Tafelberg, as everywhere discuss about the price before you leave, that way you can't get any unpleasant surprises. The busses didn't look so new, rather old.

  • By airplane : Air France, via Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris.
By adapted truck-bus. this was a very comfortable way of travelling especially on the dirt roads, and also a great view with the big side windows.

Cape Town has a big, busy international airport
  • Tip Rating:
  • Cape Town has a big, busy international airport. There is a departure tax of 25 rand to neighbouring African countries and 38 rand to all others...My flight took about 18 hours. From door to door, this was a 24 hour round trip, but worth it...
Cape Town has a good bus network. You can get anywhere in the city for about 2 rand. But buses only run along the atlantic side. There are minibus taxis that you can use.

Car / Taxi: No need for a 4 wheel drive....
  • Tip Rating:
  • No need for a 4 wheel drive. The roads are in pretty good condition in and around Cape Town. Take care however, driving is on the left....

    Buses: Internal busses
Actually public transport in SOuth Africa is on a very low level. Almost everyone that works has a car. It is really an adventure to get around Cape TOwn by the public transport.
From Camps Bay and Sea Point there are mini buses called - taxis by the locals. The price is about 4 rands and they are quite fast. But they also drive very fast, so this is not the safest transport in CT. Still, if you are a backpacker, they are much better than the expensive taxis.
My friend made this photo joke for me. I am sharing it with you :)
