We picked this wine estate to visit as it was recommended to us by various people. The main features are the amazingly beautiful location and gardens and the fabulous buildings and architecture.
We came here to visit the estate and to sample the range of wines they produce on the estate. Then came the big disappointment: we were not allowed touring the wine cellars with our baby son Youri who was neatly cuddled up in the specially designed backpack. There would be no way he could get out of it and run and scream around. The guards could not give us a plausible reason for not accepting us with a child in the backpack.
Having had this experience, we feel Vergelegen is a very inhospitable place to go and therefore I would not recommend anyone with children taking all the trouble to get here and to pay the entrance fees only to discover that you are not allowed to join their wine tours.

On a sunny day, make sure you get a table on the outside covered terrace overlooking the gardens. The food served is light and tasty, one of the specialities is local game.
