La Med: Good Food and Atmosphere

by ashley05p

There is an outer deck with a great view of the Atlantic Ocean and the 12 Apostles. The food is good, there is a huge bar, and at night it gets pretty packed. I forgot the name but it's some kind of Mediterranean sample platter with pita bread, hummus, tahini, and dolmates.

BRAAI - aka BBQ: Every home is a restaurant

by kenHuocj

South African Farmers’ Sausage Boerewors recipes can be numbered in their hundreds as each proud cook tries to produce a better, tastier sausage. In times past each farmer's wife had her own closely guarded Boerewors recipe. These Secret Boerewors Recipes may have differed only in the amount of garlic or nutmeg used, or may have introduced other ingredients such as tomatoes or tomato sauce. The Boerewors recipe given here is for the basic, original boerewors, with suggestions as to how you can ring the changes. • 3 lb beef• 3 lb pork • 1 lb bacon• ½ cup red wine vinegar• 1 clove garlic• 4 tbsp Worcestershire sauce• 3 to 3 ½ oz sausage casing• 2 tbsp salt• 1 tsp ground pepper• 2 tbsp ground coriander• ½ tsp freshly grated nutmeg• ½ tsp ground dried thyme• ½ tsp ground allspice• ¼ tsp ground cloves Dice the bacon into pieces not larger than 1 inchCut the beef and pork meat into 1 to 1 ½ inch...

Vegetarians need not apply...: Which animal will I eat tonight?

by jenniferhen

Well I honestly can say that if I was allowed to move to this country I would turn into a lardass. The food was awesome, I had NO problems ever finding something to eat. Now normally I would never say this, or even admit it, but the meat was almost as good as our fine Alberta beef. In fact I would say that I would have a hard time choosing which was better. Seriously the meat was phenomenal. I never got to eat a watrhog which is a shame as I heard that they are pretty yummy. Oh and of course there are potatoes and veggies here too but nothing came close to winning my belly over like their meat.....mmmmmm My favorite had to have been the Eland, but how do you choose....try as many as you can cause they are all worthy of digesting.

Michaela's of Cintsa: South Africa's most beautiful restaurant

by AndreSTGT

Cintsa is a small resort not far from East London on the Wild Coast, Eastern Cape.High on a hill above the town sits Michaela's Restaurant, probably one of the most beautiful coastal restaurants in the world, tastefully equipped, with a deck offering magnificent views over the sea, the beach and the lush vegetation of the hinterland. And in addition to these attributes Michaela's offers very good food with focus on seafood and Mediterranean cuisine at reasonable prices. Springbok carpaccio (29R)baby springrolls (24R)and of course a seafood platter (155R for 2)

The Post Tree: Eat Like Kings!

by funky_pigeon

A difficult restaurant to categorise into any of the available themes. It appears to be a normal, run-of-the-mill type restaurant and the prices don't give you any reason to think otherwise, but the level of service, from the moment you enter the room until the time you leave, is enough to make you think that they have mistaken you for a member of the Royal family! The food itself was fantastic, which was in keeping with every other restaurant we had visited in South Africa.

Moya: Great for groups and celebrations! Fantastic!

by traveltemptress

As you enter the restaurant, you know you're about to embark on an experience, not merely a meal. The restaurant is large and dimly lit and very ethnic. Friendly staff in traditional dress great you with big smiles and lead you away to your table. The menu is great with lots to choose from. Our table of ten sampled many different dishes, and not one was a disappointment. The ladies offer to paint your face if you wish to enter further into the African ambience. This is an excellent place to come with a group of friends. (Although this increases the danger of vast quantities of alcohol being consumed which, in turn, bumps up the price!) I have to pick two here! In no particular order, the seafood tagine and the spingbok wrapped chicken. Two very different dishes and both delicious. The seafood tagine was very spicy with generous amounts of seafood. The spingbok wrapped chicken was...

Gramadoelas Restaurant: Upmarket African food in Johannesburg

by AndreSTGT

African specialities from Cape to Cairo is the motto of this fantastic restaurant in Jo'burgs Newtown precinct. Gramadoelas is the place where celebrities dine when they visit Jo'burg. The guest list includes Mandela, Hillary Clinton and Catherine Deneuve... but don't worry, everybody is welcome to dine there and the evening we visited we were the only guests in the extravagant dining-hall filled with souvenirs from all over Africa. We were treated like V.I.Ps, the food was outstanding and prices reasonable. When you're in Jo'burg you just have to eat there once! Mains range from 35R (crocodile) to 150R (king prawns).Be sure to order Kneffa for dessert. It's a Moroccan speciality and tastes divine!!!

Carnivores: The taste of giraffe...

by geanster

As many of my friends and I were foreigner's, my friend's family decided to take us to a restaurant called Carnivore's to give us the opportunity to try some different African meats. The restaurant was located near Johannesburg, probably 20 or so minutes out of town. I tried Giraffe, Wilderbeast, Kudu, etc. I have to admit, giraffe was really quite tasty, but I couldn't bring myself to eat more than a bite. There's a white flag upon your table, and they continue to bring different meat selections to your table on Maasai Swords and slice them onto your plate until you put your flag down in "surrender." The ambience is great and they even break into performances of cultural dances and festivities at different points throughout the evening. There are more typical food choices like chicken and beef for those less-adventurous souls. :) This excerpt is from the website I've linked below: "The...

Little Switzerland Hotel: Great Brunch in the Drakensbergs

by geanster

I just thought this was a very cute location to stop and enjoy the scenery of the area. We had a delicious brunch that had every option we could have dreamed of. They have a lovely garden area in the center that I thought was gorgeous and a pond in the back. Beautiful area. You can sit on the back deck and soak in the view.
